Previous issue date: 1994 / Resumo: O estado fundamental de alguns sistemas quânticos e finitos de spins 1/2, em 1, 2 e 3 dimensões, descritos pelo hamiltoniano de Heisenberg anti-ferromagnético, é investigado de maneira algébrica e exata. O subespaço de spin total S que contém o estado fundamental é determinado através do teorema de ordenamento de energia de Lieb e Mattis, e sua simetria é estudada fazendo-se uso do teorema de Oguchi e Kitatani. A alta dimensionalidade do subespaço que contém o estado fundamental é reduzida explorando as propriedades de simetria do sistema. Isto é feito de maneira sistematizada utilizando técnicas de teoria de grupos e operadores de permutação. Os estados fundamentais obtidos exatamente são utilizados em cálculos de grandezas físicas como energia e correlações entre spins / Abstract: The ground state of spin-1/2 quantum finite systems is investigated in exact analytical way. The examples included correspond to cases in one, two and three dimensions, all of them described by the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Hamiltonian. The manifold of total spin S, that contains the ground state, is determined throughout the energy ordering theorem of Lieb and Mattis, and its symmetry is studied using the theorem of Oguchi and Kitatani. The high dimensionality of the subspace that contains the ground state is reduced exploring the symmetry properties of the system. This is done in a systematic way using group theory techniques and the permutation operators. The ground states, obtained in exact form, are used to calculate physical quantities like energy and correlations of spins / Mestrado / Física / Mestre em Física
