Previous issue date: 1998 / Resumo: Este trabalho analisa a Renovação Carismática Católica no Brasil. Busca-se compreender: (a) as diferentes motivações que levam os fiéis católicos a aderirem ao movimento carismático; (b) as condições sociais que permitiram seu enraizamento e crescimento; (c) as mudanças e alterações ao longo de vinte anos; (d) as novidades que introduz no catolicismo e (e) as tendências que apresenta. Este estudo aborda ainda as diferenças e semelhanças entre a Renovação Carismática e o Pentecostalismo. Focaliza, também, a tensão existente entre a Renovação Carismática e a Teologia da Libertação. / Abstract: This research results from a study of the Catholic Carismatic Renovation in Brazil. It tries to understand: (a) the reasons that led the catholics to join the carismatic movement; (b) the social circunstances under which this movement spread and grew stronger; (c) the changes and alterations during the last twenty year; (d) the new approaches brought to Catholicism and (e) the various tendencies of the carismatic movement. This study also examines the similarities and differences between the Carismatic Renovation and Pentecostalism. Special attentian is given to the tension between the Carismatic Movement and the Theolagy af Liberatian. / Mestrado / Mestre em Sociologia
