Previous issue date: 2011 / Resumo: A questão central de nosso trabalho é a constituição dos sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs) do ponto de vista dos agricultores e das agricultoras em suas práticas familiares. Nosso objetivo é analisar até que ponto é a cultura camponesa que estrutura a prática e os princípios dos sistemas agroflorestais. O caminho metodológico construído desvenda a trajetória dos agentes da pesquisa, captando as experiências dos narradores. Entendemos que as práticas familiares na trajetória dessas famílias resultam da relação dialética entre situações descritas a partir de um habitus, o qual se atualiza concretamente na lógica específica de uma prática particular, no caso os sistemas agroflorestais. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em duas áreas no estado do Rio Grande do Sul (RS), uma junto a agricultores familiares do litoral norte e outra com agricultores familiares assentados do Assentamento 19 de Setembro em Guaíba. Optamos pelo método da história oral, utilizando como instrumento da pesquisa o depoimento. Complementarmente ao depoimento foram construídos mapas de localização das áreas e distâncias das áreas na região, as trajetórias familiares, a elaboração de mapas mentais, bem como o levantamento bibliográfico e de dados secundários. Apresentamos os impactos que a modernização da agricultura deixou para o entendimento da trajetória desses agricultores, a relação de sistemas agroflorestais na busca por outra agricultura, onde podemos ressaltar as marcas da cultura camponesa na dinâmica que associa família, trabalho e produção, no sistema de policultura, nas atividades não agrícolas, na renda obtida de forma direta ou indireta com essas atividades, nas respectivas trajetórias e nos mapas mentais com suas explicações. Em seguida discutimos as questões relacionadas ao alimento e à saúde, ao trabalho dos homens e mulheres, à importância da feira, ao significado da organização social na participação em cooperativas, associações, redes e ao processo de mediação. A partir dessas análises constatamos a existência do habitus agroflorestal, que se confirmou na configuração entre práticas gestadas no âmbito de problemas socioambientais e nas marcas da cultura camponesa. É algo que não se explica de uma forma racional, mas existe; sua racionalidade vai além do que podemos compreender, sua lógica é algo peculiar à situação histórico-social. Por isso, podemos entender porque algumas famílias que passam pelo mesmo processo de mediação não continuam na prática e porque essas entendem o sistema agroflorestal como um sistema de vida / Abstract: The central issue approached in our work is the constitution of agroforestry systems (AFSs) under the farmers' point of view within their family practices. Our objective is to analyze to what extent the peasant culture structures the practices and principles of agroforestry systems. The methodological path built here unveils the path traced by research agents, thus capturing the narrators' experiences. It is our understanding that family practices along these families' path result from the dialectic relationship between situations described from a habitus which is concretely updated through the specific logic of a specific practice, such as in the case of agroforestry systems. The research was carried out at two areas in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, one of family farmers at the northern coast, and another of family farmers settled in the "19 de Setembro" settlement in Guaíba. We chose the oral narrative method, and used testimony as our research instrument. Complementarily, location maps of the areas and of the distances between areas at the regions, tracing of family paths, mind maps, as well as bibliographic and secondary-data surveys were elaborated. We present the impacts of agricultural modernization to the comprehension of the paths traced by these farmers and the role played by agroforestry systems in the pursuit of another agriculture, and are thus able to reinforce the peasant culture marks in the dynamics among family, work and production, in the multiple cropping system, in the nonagricultural activities, in the income obtained directly or indirectly through these activities, in the paths traced, and in the mind maps with their explanations. We then discuss the issues related to food and health, to the labor of men and women, to the importance of the fairs, to the meaning of social organization for the participation in agricultural cooperatives, associations, networks, and to the mediation process. From these analyses we discover the existence of the agroforestry habitus, which confirms itself in the configuration of practices evolving from socio-environmental problems and marks of the peasant culture. It is something that cannot be explained in a rational form, but that does exist; its rationality goes beyond our comprehension, its logic is singular to the social-historical situation. Thus, we may understand why some families that go through the same mediation process do not carry on with the practice, and why they understand the agroforestry system as a life system / Doutorado / Sociologia Rural / Doutor em Ciências Sociais
