Previous issue date: 2006 / Resumo: A dinâmica das políticas de proteção social em vários países e, especialmente, no Brasil abre espaço para a firmação de um novo ¿pacto social¿. A partir deste pacto, a atuação de vários indivíduos, organizações e instituições tem se consolidado numa interseção entre o público e o privado, constituindo uma nova forma de proteção social paralela à oferecida pelo Estado. A partir do histórico da atuação estatal no enfrentamento das questões sociais, privilegiando-se seus determinantes políticos e econômicos, este trabalho trata da incorporação de uma ¿cultura de Responsabilidade Social¿ que alicerça as ações desenvolvidas por agentes privados, e é assimilada pelas empresas privadas na forma da ¿Responsabilidade Social Empresarial¿. As questões ligadas à responsabilidade social das empresas privadas são controversas, chamando a atenção a dúvida acerca de seu real potencial de atuação diante dos problemas sociais que afligem o país. Os instrumentos atualmente disponíveis para observarmos a atuação das empresas neste sentido são os Balanços e Relatórios Sociais, publicados pelas próprias empresas e suas entidades representativas. A partir da observação das informações disponibilizadas nestes documentos, esta dissertação se propõe a analisar a postura socialmente responsável dos principais bancos privados que atuam no Brasil, com foco especial nas relações de trabalho delimitadas com seus empregados / Abstract: The dynamics of the social protection policies in many countries, specially in Brazil, allows the establishment of a new ¿social pact¿. From this pact, the behaviour of various individuals, organizations and institutions have been consolidated in a intersection between the public and the private, becoming a new way of social protection, paralell to the one offered by the State. From the historic of the state action on facing the social issues, prioritizing their political and economic determinants, this dissertation is concerned with the incorporation of a ¿Social Responsibility Culture¿, which is a base for the actions taken by the private agents, and is embodied by the private enterprises as the ¿Enterprise Social Responsibility¿. The issues linked to the social responsibility of the private enterprises are controversial, and an important issue is the doubt around its real potential of action when facing the social problems of the country. The currently available instruments to observe the enterprises¿ actions in this sense are the Social Reports, published by the companies themselves and their representative entities. From the observation of the available information in these documents, this dissertation aims at analysing the socially responsible position of the main private banks in Brazil, focusing specially on the labour relationship with its employees / Mestrado / Economia Social e do Trabalho / Mestre em Desenvolvimento Econômico
