Previous issue date: 1997 / Resumo: A entrada da AIDS nas famílias, decorrente da cronificação da doença, gera situações de crises até então desconhecidas. Com o objetivo de se conhecer esta nova realidade, foi realizado um estudo na Unidade Leito-Dia do HC da UNICAMP, onde se entrevistou 20 cuidadores de pacientes com AIDS. Foi utilizado o método Clínico-Qualitativo e a técnica da Entrevista Semidirigida de Questões Abertas. Os resultados foram divididos em dois grupos: a)dificuldades para cuidados assistenciais, tais como: falta de orientação, de materiais, de transporte e de pessoal para assumir o papel de cuidador; b) os sentimentos emergentes na situação, tais como: medo do contágio (cônjuges e filhos), revolta (traição, afloramento de estilos de vida e opções sexuais), dó e impotência diante da morte. A família recebe uma 'carga' de responsabilidades para a qual, muitas vezes, não está preparada, levando à desestruturação da mesma. É indispensável o fornecimento de aportes para esta família, ajudando-a na execução de um plano de assistência ao doente. O papel da família é fundamental na assistência ao paciente, quer seja por incapacidade do sistema de saúde em atender a todos os doentes de AIDS, quer seja pela necessidade, cada vez mais expressa, da permanência do indivíduo ao lado da família, recebendo deste acolhimento e suporte emocional / Abstract: Abstract: The advent of AIDS in families, following the cronification of the illness, produces crisis situations unknwon until now. With the objective of know this new reality, this study was done in the Unidade Leito-Dia (Day Hospital Unity) from Clinical Hospital of UNICAMP, interviewing 20 caregivers of patients with AIDS. The Clinical-Qualitative Method and the Technique of Semi-Directed Interviews with Open Questions were employed. Results were divided in two groups: Difficulties for assistencial help, such as: lack of orientation, of materials, of transport and of people to assume the role of caregiver, and The fellings arisen in the situation, such as: fear from contagious (partners and children), revolt (treason, emergence of life styles and sexual options), pity and impotence in front of death. The family receives a load of responsibilities that is not prepared to, resulting in its isorganization. Support provision is essential to this family, and it has to be helped in executing an aid plain to the ill person. The role of family is essential in the patient assistance, due the incapacity of the health system attend all AIDS sicks and to the urgent necessity of the infected individual be kept besides the family receiving attention and emotional support / Doutorado / Doutor em Saude Mental
