Previous issue date: 2000 / Resumo: A patogênese da doença de Behçet (DB) e da poliarterite nodosa (PAN) não está totalmente esclareci da. No desencadeamento destas doenças provavelmente atuam diversos fenômenos interrelacionados, incluindo-se a produção de várias citocinas pró-inflamatórias. Neste estudo foi investigado o comportamento da interleucina-8 (IL-8) sérica em 21 pacientes com OB e em 16 pacientes com PAN. Os pacientes foram estudados levando-se em conta a existência ou não de atividade clínica elou laboratorial de doença. A análise quantitativa do nível sérico da IL-8 foi realizada pelo método de ELlSA. Utilizou-se soro de 30 indivíduos saudáveis como controle. Os resultados encontrados revelaram níveis da IL-8 sérica significativamente mais elevados nos pacientes com OB em atividade quando comparados aos dos controles (59,01 pg/ml versus 38,54 pg/ml p=0,0059). Comparando-se o grupo de doentes com OB em atividade e o sem atividade, embora os níveis observados. nos primeiros tenham se apresentado superiores, não houve diferença estatística (59,01 pg/ml versus 44,23 pg/ml p=0,1697). Os níveis da IL-8 sérica no grupo com PAN em atividade foram superiores aos do grupo controle (214,03 pg/ml versus 38,54 pg/ml - p=0,OO62). Quando comparou-se os grupos com PAN' corn"" e sem atividade de doença, houve diferença estatística (214,03 pg/ml versus '33,15 pg/ml - p=0,0299). Os maiores níveis séricos de IL-8 foram observados nos pacientes com doença mais grave na OB e na PAN / Abstract: The pathogenesis of Behçet's disease (BO) as well as of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is not completely clarified. At the process of breaking out towards those mentioned diseases, many different kinds of interrelated phenomena probably act including the production of several pro-inflammatory cytokines. At the present study we investigated the behavior of interleukin-8 serum (IL-8) in 21 patients having BO and in 16 patients having PAN. Patients have been studied taking into account the existence or not of clinical and/or laboratory activity concerning the disease in itself. The analysis of IL-8 serum levei was carried out using a quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay (ELlSA) method. The serum of 30 healthy individuais has been utilized as a control group. The results found showed IL-8 serum levels significantly higher in those patients having active BO as compared to the contrais (59.01 pg/ml versus 38.54 pg/ml - p=0.0059). As we compared the graup of patients having active BO with the other group of patients having inactive BO, there was no statistical difference (59.01 pg/ml versus 44.23 pg/ml - p=0.1697), though the levels noticed at the first group showed higher numbers. The interleukin-8 serum levels present in the graup having active PAN were higher as compared to the control grouR (214.03 pg/ml versus 38.54 pg/ml p=0.0062). The comparison of groups having PAN with actvity and inactivity of disease showed statistical difference (214.03 pg/ml versus 33.15 pg/ml p=0.0299). The highest interleukin-8 serum levels have been observed in those patients having the most severe form of disease either in BO or PAN / Mestrado / Clinica Medica / Mestre em Clinica Medica
