This research study aimed to investigate the interaction between female teenage readers and the teenage magazine Capricho, especifically in what concerns the imposition of a slim body model. The research corpus was composed of 12 interpretative texts written by female teenagers after reading an article from Capricho about the theme thinness and health. The theoretical background for this work comes from critical discourse analysis (CDA) and systemic functional linguistics (SFL). In late modernity, the body considered ‘beautiful’ and attractive is extremelly slim, almost anorexic, a body design that has become the goal of countless women, young and old alike. The magazine Capricho makes use of both visual resources (photos of very slim young girls) and short verbal texts to describe the slim body as the ideal of female beauty. Previous issue date: 2009 / Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar a interação entre as leitoras adolescentes e a revista Capricho, mais especificamente com relação ao imperativo de corpo magro presente no discurso deste veículo midiático. Para a análise, foram utilizados doze textos interpretativos produzidos pelas adolescentes após a leitura de um artigo da revista Capricho. O suporte teórico-metodológico utilizado nesta pesquisa tem como base a análise crítica do discurso (ACD) e a lingüística sistêmico-funcional (LSF). Na contemporaneidade, o corpo considerado ‘belo’ é de uma magreza extrema, próximo ao anoréxico, e esse modelo se tornou objeto de desejo para quase todas as mulheres, tanto jovens quanto adultas. A Capricho utiliza tanto recursos visuais (fotos de meninas magras) quanto textos verbais para descrever o corpo magro como modelo ideal de beleza feminina. A análise indica que tanto o texto midiático como os textos produzidos pelas adolescentes reproduzem e reforçam a ‘necessidade’ de disciplinar o corpo e torná-lo e/ou mantê-lo magro
