This work has the intention to show that the history of fashion is made by ruptures or revolutions. The beginning of the fashion field occurs with the birth of the haut couture, and, in a period of hundred years, it will be constituted in a stylistic matrix which is composed by the paradigms of haut couture and prêt-à-porter. Through the analysis of the images, it will be demonstrated that the revolutionary changes in fashion, as a language, reflect the revolutions of the historic context, specifying the social role of the woman. Previous issue date: 2006 / Este trabalho pretende mostrar que a história da moda é marcada por rupturas ou revoluções. A gênese do campo da moda ocorre com o surgimento da alta costura, e, num período de cem anos, ele se constituirá numa matriz estilística composta pelos paradigmas da alta costura e do prêt-à-porter. Através da análise das imagens, será demonstrado que as mudanças revolucionárias na moda, como linguagem, refletem as revoluções do contexto histórico, aqui, especificamente, o papel social da mulher. O objetivo geral deste trabalho é estabelecer uma relação entre as duas grandes mudanças de paradigma que aconteceram na história da moda – o surgimento da alta costura no ano de 1858 e a ascensão do prêt-à-porter no final da década de 50 – e as transformações no comportamento social feminino no mesmo período
