Previous issue date: 2013 / Esta dissertação tem por objetivo analisar as teorias do conhecimento e os quadros teóricos de referência explicitados nas teses de doutorado sobre educação a distância no Brasil apresentadas entre 1997 e 2010 em Programas de Pós-Graduação e disponíveis na Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do Instituto Brasileiro de Ciência e Tecnologia do Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia. A pesquisa orienta-se teórica e metodologicamente pela concepção de realidade baseada no materialismo histórico dialético. A coleta de dados ocorreu em três etapas distintas. Na primeira, foram catalogadas e analisadas, quantitativamente, as características de 315 teses e dissertações, constituindo um estudo exploratório que permitiu, numa segunda etapa, delimitar o tema e formular o problema da pesquisa. Na terceira etapa, foram catalogadas e analisadas, quantitativamente e qualitativamente, 30 teses. Os resultados evidenciam que 29 teses (97,7%) não explicitam a teoria do conhecimento; oito teses (26,7%) explicitam o quadro teórico de referência com base na tradição filosófica; 15 teses (50%) explicitam o referencial teórico com base em modelos, mapas, paradigmas ou esquemas conceituais; e, sete teses (23,3%) apenas apresentam revisão bibliográfica ou revisão de literatura sem referir nenhum quadro ou referencial teórico. A pesquisa ainda evidencia que do total de teses analisadas, 25 (83%) fizeram referência exclusiva à pesquisa qualitativa; uma tese (3%) à pesquisa quantitativa e quatro teses (14%) à articulação entre a pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa. Os resultados permitem concluir que há um arrefecimento da teoria na produção do conhecimento em EaD e que os quadros teóricos de referência fundamentam-se no subjetivismo e no ceticismo epistemológico. / This dissertation aims to analyze the theories of knowledge and the theoretical frameworks of reference explained in doctoral dissertations on distance education in Brazil presented between 1997 and 2010 in graduate Programs and available in Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations from the Brazilian Institute of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The results show that 29 theses (97.7 %) did not explain the theory of knowledge; eight theses (26.7 %) explain the theoretical framework of reference based on philosophical tradition; 15 dissertations (50 %) explain the theoretical framework based on models, maps, paradigms or conceptual schemes; and seven theses (23.3 %) present only bibliographic review or revision of literature without refer to any instrument or theoretical framework. The survey also shows that of the total number of dissertations analyzed, 25 (83 %) had exclusive reference to qualitative research; a theses (3 %) the quantitative survey and four dissertations (14 %) the triangulation between the quantitative and qualitative research. The results allow us to conclude that there is a cooling of theory in knowledge production in Odl and that the theoretical frames of reference are based on subjectivism and epistemological skepticism
