Previous issue date: 2013-03-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The aging process refers the individual to many different confrontations that associated with HIV contagion, takes wider dimensions and awakens a different look for this population group, by believing that living the challenges in the struggle for life with AIDS, results in rich experiences, in that the human support superimposes the daily confrontation. In this direction, the present research had as objectives: know the history of people getting older with HIV/AIDS, members of a Non-Governmental Organization and identify the feelings and the facing strategies that permeate the relationships experienced by people who are getting older with HIV / AIDS. This is a study with qualitative approach, being Thematic Oral History as a methodological support. The research was conducted during the period from July to September 2012, through interviews with eight collaborators of the National Network of People Living and Living Together with HIV and AIDS (RNP+CG), located in Campina Grande. The analysis of the empirical material allowed the construction of two main themes: 1 - Getting old with HIV/AIDS and 2 - Feelings and the facing strategies in the relationship experienced by getting old with HIV/AIDS. In the first main theme, aging is considered with positive and negative aspects, while appointed as a natural consequence of human evolution at the same time it is configured as a synonym of disease, lack of beauty and invalidity. The second main theme depicts the feelings and the facing strategies, since the search for diagnosis to the discovery of seropositivity. Confrontations are related to financial difficulties, reactions caused by the presence of antiretroviral and opportunistic diseases associated with feelings of fear to reveal the diagnosis to partners, family and friends as a result of suffering from prejudice and discrimination, causing social isolation. In this aspect, the Non-Governmental Organizations play an essential role in combating AIDS, by assisting the patients to deal with the imposed challenges, promoting the increase of self-esteem and willpower to continue living. The study bought together different experiences of people getting older with HIV/AIDS and the Oral History allowed unveil certain facets of confrontations that each collaborator has experienced in the complexity and diversity that characterized the epidemic. In this direction, this investigation offers possibilities to health care professionals and other social segments to understand the various confrontations experienced by people getting older with HIV / AIDS and awaken to mobilizations to build, expand and strengthen the fight against the disease, especially for those who experience this dual context with wide and complex features that the disease imposes. / O processo de envelhecimento remete o indivíduo a enfrentamentos diversos que, associados ao contágio pelo HIV, tomam dimensões mais amplas e desperta um olhar diferenciado para este grupo populacional, por acreditar que vivenciar os desafios na luta pela vida com a aids resulta em experiências ricas, em que o apoio humano se sobrepõe aos enfrentamentos diários. Neste sentido, a presente pesquisa teve, como objetivos: conhecer a história de pessoas envelhecendo com HIV/aids integrantes de uma Organização Não-Governamental e identificar os sentimentos e as estratégias de enfrentamento que permeiam as relações vivenciadas por pessoas que envelhecem com HIV/aids. Trata-se de um estudo com abordagem qualitativa, sendo a História Oral Temática como suporte metodológico. A pesquisa foi realizada durante o período de julho a setembro de 2012, através de entrevista com oito colaboradores da Rede Nacional de Pessoas Vivendo e Convivendo com HIV e Aids (RNP+CG), localizada em Campina Grande-PB. A análise do material empírico permitiu a construção de dois eixos temáticos: 1 - Envelhecer com HIV/Aids e 2 Sentimentos e estratégias de enfrentamento nas relações vivenciadas ao envelhecer com HIV/Aids. No primeiro eixo temático o envelhecimento é considerado com aspectos positivos e negativos, quando apontado como consequência natural da evolução humana ao mesmo tempo em que se configura como sinônimo de doença, ausência de beleza e invalidez. O segundo eixo temático retrata os sentimentos e as estratégias de enfrentamento, desde a busca pelo diagnóstico até o descobrimento da sorologia positiva. Os enfrentamentos são relacionados às dificuldades financeiras, reações provocadas pelos antirretrovirais e à presença das doenças oportunistas, associados aos sentimentos de medo ao revelar o diagnóstico aos parceiros, familiares e amigos, em consequência de vir a sofrer preconceito e discriminação, provocando o isolamento social. Neste aspecto, as Organizações Não-Governamentais desempenham papel essencial na luta contra aids, auxiliando os portadores a enfrentar os desafios impostos, promovendo o aumento da autoestima e da força de vontade para continuar vivendo. O estudo reuniu diferentes experiências de pessoas envelhecendo com HIV/aids e a História Oral permitiu desvelar determinadas facetas dos enfretamentos que cada colaborador vivenciou na complexidade e diversidade que caracterizam a epidemia. Neste sentido, tal investigação oferece possibilidades aos profissionais de saúde e outros segmentos sociais para compreenderem os diversos enfrentamentos vividos pelas pessoas envelhecendo com HIV/aids e despertar para mobilizações em construir, ampliar e fortalecer a luta contra a doença, principalmente para aqueles que vivenciam esse duplo contexto com características amplas e complexas que a doença impõe.
