justification the implantation of the first course that intended to form History's teachers to act in the job market, which happened with the operation of the course of Geography and History, in 1952, in the University of Philosophy from Paraíba (FAFI). The period extends until 1974, year in that realize the Centric Reform, when the academical structure of the Federal
University from Paraíba (UFPB) it started to be organized in Centers. In first place, we approached the implantation of the Higher Education in the Paraíba, since the Empire, with
the first schools of Higher Education, going by the foundation of firsts Brazilian Universities, until the appearance of the Higher Education in the Paraíba with the schools and isolated
universities (end of the decade of 1940, beginning of the decade of 1950), its estadualization with the creation of the University from Paraíba (1955) and the federalization of this in 1960. In a second moment, our focus was gone back to the Reforms in the Brazilian higher education starting from the decade of 1960, especially the Law of Guidelines and Bases of the Education (LDB) of 1961 and the Academical Reform of 1968, detaching their implications in UFPB and in ICFCH, where it passed to the course of History to work after the reform of 1968. For better understanding of the historical moment in that those reforms were processed, we discussed the crisis of the populist State, emphasizing the João Goulart's government and their reforms, the student movement and their claims, the military blow and its repressive
action before the society. Finally, we stopped with the professional's of History formation, in that we evaluated that professional type the course of History formed in the approached period. In that way, we tried to place the debate that settles down between historians and historians from the education regarding the Teaching of History, relationship with the research and the reflexes of that relationship or absence of it in the professional's of superior level formation in the implantation period and consolidation of the institutions of Higher education that created the course of History from UFPB. / Esse trabalho tem como objetivo fazer um estudo sobre a formação do profissional de história em instituições de nível superior na Paraíba, de 1952 a 1974. O recorte temporal tem como justificativa a implantação do primeiro curso que se propôs formar professores de História para atuarem no mercado de trabalho, isso ocorreu com o funcionamento do curso de Geografia e História, em 1952, na Faculdade de Filosofia da Paraíba (FAFI). O período se estende até 1974, ano em que se realizou a Reforma Cêntrica, quando a estrutura universitária da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB) passou a ser organizada em Centros. Em primeiro
lugar, abordamos a implantação do Ensino Superior na Paraíba, desde o Império, com as primeiras escolas de Ensino Superior, passando pela fundação das primeiras Universidades
brasileiras, até o surgimento do Ensino Superior na Paraíba com as escolas e faculdades isoladas (fim da década de 1940, início da década de 1950), sua estadualização com a criação
da Universidade da Paraíba (1955) e a federalização desta em 1960. Em um segundo momento, nosso enfoque esteve voltado para as Reformas no ensino superior brasileiro a
partir da década de 1960, notadamente a Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação (LDB) de 1961 e a Reforma Universitária de 1968, destacando suas implicações na UFPB e no ICFCH,
onde passou a funcionar o curso de História após a reforma de 1968. Para melhor entendimento do momento histórico em que se processaram essas reformas, discutimos a crise
do Estado populista, enfatizando o governo João Goulart e suas reformas, o movimento estudantil e suas reivindicações, o golpe militar e sua ação repressiva perante a sociedade. Por
fim, detivemo-nos com a formação do profissional de História, em que avaliamos que tipo de profissional o curso de História formou no período abordado. Dessa forma, procuramos situar
o debate que se estabelece entre historiadores e historiadores da educação a respeito do Ensino de História, relação com a pesquisa e os reflexos dessa relação ou ausência dela na formação do profissional de nível superior no período de implantação e consolidação das instituições de Ensino Superior que deram origem ao curso de História da UFPB.
