Previous issue date: 2009-08-28 / Novels written under a new perspective and narratives which intend to reformulate or challenge the past, 'filling blanks' in texts from previous periods constitute the most common forms of intertextuality in contemporary fiction, especially in the works of authors originary from colonized countries. It is this dialogue between different historical moments that is intended to be studied by means of the novel I, Tituba... Black witch of Salem (1986), by the Antilean writer Maryse Condé, which dialogues with two other works by American authors, The Crucible (1953), by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter (1850), by Nathaniel Hawthorne. / Romances escritos sob uma nova perspectiva e narrativas que pretendem reformular ou desafiar o passado, 'completando lacunas' em textos de períodos anteriores, constituem as formas mais comuns de intertextualidade na ficção contemporânea, especialmente nos trabalhos de autores advindos de países colonizados.
