Previous issue date: 2011-11-25 / The television s electronic media as an instrument of social control and economic power from the analysis of the dispute the right of retransmission of TV Globo in Maranhão. Relying on the theoretical assumption of marxist Political Economy of Communication and Social Control category, investigates the relationship between media, democracy and economic power, taking as an example how the oligarchy Sarney has been using the television as a tool of political and economic power concentration, particularly considering the making of the retransmission of TV Globo in Maranhão of Difusora, in possession of the family Bacelar, by TV Mirante, ownership of the family Sarney. / A mídia eletrônica de televisão como instrumento de controle social e poder econômico a partir da análise da disputa pelo direito de retransmissão da TV Globo no Maranhão. Baseando-se no pressuposto teórico marxista da Economia Política da Comunicação e da categoria Controle Social, investiga a relação entre mídia, democracia e poder econômico, tomando como exemplo a maneira como a oligarquia Sarney vem se utilizando da televisão como instrumento de concentração de poder político e econômico, particularmente analisando a tomada da retransmissão da Rede Globo no Maranhão da TV Difusora, de posse da família Bacelar, pela TV Mirante, de propriedade da família Sarney.
