Previous issue date: 2008-07-31 / The increase of population aging has been noticed all over the world and it is a reflex of the technological improvements in the social and health sectors. Such transformation challenges society in general to qualify this delay of human aging, adapting the socio-cultural, economical, educational and political actions to this new demand. Thus, the present research aimed at checking the educational public policies for the elderly and their implementation by SEED –Pr in the city of Prudentópolis, as well as identifying the elderly interest and
difficulties regarding their participation in educational projects. In order to do so, a qualitative methodology with an investigatory approach has been chosen, making use of a questionnaire and documental analysis as instruments for the
research. The data collected have been analyzed in an interpretative way. This analysis allowed a better understanding of the state reality of the elderly in
relation to the offer of permanent education programs and the value of the elderly in society. The general conclusions that have been reached are the following: in the public sphere, education is the sector which least contemplates the elderly with projects guided to their interests; the population in general is not aware of the “Statute of the Elderly” yet, a fact that reinforces the stigma of aging as a phase of personal and unproductive decay; there are no educational
programs specific for the elderly. The research points out the need for a greater awareness on behalf of all the population regarding the growing population of the Elderly, its importance and active participation in society; apart from that, there must be preparation of the new generations for a good intergenerational companionship, as well as preparation for their own aging; after all, prejudice against the elderly and their inclusion in educational projects of their interest
must be ceased, a fact that will make them active citizens in all sectors of society, such as social, political, economical, juridical, sanitary, cultural ones, etc. / O aumento do envelhecimento populacional tem sido percebido em todo mundo e é reflexo dos avanços tecnológicos na área social e da saúde. Tal transformação desafia a sociedade em geral a qualificar esse prolongamento
da vida humana, adequando as ações socioculturais, econômicas, educacionais e políticas a essa nova demanda. Assim, a presente pesquisa objetivou verificar as políticas públicas educacionais para o idoso e sua implementação pela SEED – PR na cidade de Prudentópolis e identificar o
interesse e as dificuldades dos idosos com relação à participação em projetos educacionais. Para tanto, optou-se por utilizar uma metodologia qualitativa de cunho investigativo, fazendo uso de questionário e análise documental como instrumentos de pesquisa. A partir da coleta de dados, estes foram analisados de forma interpretativa. Esta análise permitiu que se conhecesse melhor a
realidade estadual dos idosos com relação à promoção de programas de educação permanente e à valorização do idoso em relação à sociedade. As conclusões gerais a que chegamos foram as seguintes: na esfera pública, a
educação é o setor que menos contempla os idosos com projetos voltados aos seus interesses; a população em geral ainda desconhece o Estatuto do Idoso, o que reforça o estigma da velhice como uma fase de declínio pessoal e
improdutivo; não há um programa educacional específico para os idosos. A pesquisa reforça a necessidade de haja uma maior conscientização por parte de toda a população no que diz respeito ao crescimento demográfico da Terceira Idade, sua importância e participação ativa na sociedade; deve haver
também um preparo das novas gerações para uma boa convivência intergeracional, bem como uma preparação para sua própria velhice; enfim, devem-se quebrar preconceitos relativos aos idosos e à inserção do idoso em projetos educacionais de seu interesse, o que o tornará um cidadão ativo em todos os setores da sociedade, tais como o social, político, econômico, jurídico, sanitário, cultural etc.
