o presente estudo trata da criação e consolidação da Escola de Enfermagem da UFRGS. Acompanha o período de 1950 a 1957, analisando o papel e a contribuição das fundadoras, as irmãs Verderese, a partir das lutas empreendidas na sua gestão, discutindo as relações de gênero e poder presentes no processo de implantação e trajetória dos primeiros anos do curso de enfermagem. O estudo, de natureza histórico-social, adota abordagem de história oral e pesquisa documental com apoio da técnica de análise temática. Foram utilizados os referenciais teóricos de Pierre Bourdieu (conceito de habitus e campo de poder), Michel Foucault (disciplina) e Erving Goffman (conceito de instituição total). Esses referenciais foram utilizados na perspectiva da História Nova, caracterizada pela ênfase na problematização do objeto de estudo e na percepção do fato como um meio de investigação. Assim, procuramos, sem nos atermos à rigidez cronológica ou a princípios formais de narrativa, segundo os referenciais adotados, vislumbrar, através da reconstrução do passado, a trajetória da fundação e consolidação da Escola de Enfermagem da UFRGS a partir da contribuição das primeiras diretoras. Nesse contexto, percebemos a importância do trabalho pioneiro das irmãs Verderese, cujas entrevistas constituem importante material na confecção deste estudo, que contou também com valiosos depoimentos de alunas e professoras das primeiras turmas da Escola de Enfermagem da UFRGS. / The present text studies the creation and consolidation of the UFRGS' Nursing School. It covers the period from 1950 tb 1957 and analyses the role and the contribution of the sisters Verderese, the founder of the UFRGS' Nursing School, from the fights of their administration, discussing the gender and the power's relations in the process of implantation and the first years of the course of nursing. The study, of historical and social nature, makes use of oral history and documental research with support of the technique of analyses thematic. We have used the theoretical references from Pierre Bourdieu (concept of habitus and power's field), Michel Foucault (discipline) and Enrique Goffman (total institution's concept). These references were used in the perspective of New History, featured by the emphasis on the problem of the object in study and the fact like a guide of investigation. So, we have asked, without stay closed in the chronological hardness or a formal narrative's rules, according to the references used, see, by the reconstruction of the past, the trajetory of fundation and consolidation of the UFRGS' Nursing School, from the contribution of the first managers. In this context, we have noted the importance of sisters Verderese's pioneer work, who we had interviews, that make an important material on the construction of this study, that had toa the worthy contributions of students and professors of the first classes of UFRGS' Nursing School.
