O progressivo aumento do número de casos de AIDS entre as mulheres e conseqüentemente da transmissão vertical do HIV, vem assumindo grande importância epidemiológica, recebendo atenção especial com a implementação das recomendações do Ministério da Saúde para a profilaxia da transmissão vertical do HIV e terapia antirretroviral em gestantes. Apesar dos esforços direcionados para o desenvolvimento das ações, os dados referentes a monitorização das etapas de intervenção para a profilaxia da transmissão vertical do HIV ainda são escassos e sugerem diversas falhas no processo.Este estudo teve como objetivo Identificar as ações de profilaxia da transmissão vertical do HIV, implementadas pelos profissionais de saúde, em maternidades universitárias do Município do Rio de Janeiro à luz do referencial do Ministério da Saúde. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório, descritivo com abordagem quantitativa. O estudo aconteceu em três maternidades Universitárias no Município do Rio de Janeiro em 2005, utilizando como estratégia para a coleta dos dados a análise documental. Foram utilizados 86 prontuários de todas as parturientes portadoras do HIV assistidas no ano de 2004 que utilizaram os serviços das maternidades envolvidas no estudo. A partir dos resultados verificou-se que o perfil das mulheres atendidas nas maternidades universitárias não difere dos atuais estudos epidemiológicos realizados no Brasil. Quanto aos momentos específicos pelos quais passa a mulher no processo da gestação, parto e puerpério, mesmo em hospitais de ensino, existe a dificuldade de se implementar as recomendações do protocolo. Conclui-se que o fato de terem em vários resultados um percentual muito abaixo do esperado deveu-se principalmente a ausência de registros nos prontuários e que um conjunto de questões deverão ser objeto de intervenções, pelos gestores das instituições pesquisadas para que instrumentalizados corrijam os rumos na execução das políticas de profilaxia da transmissão vertical do HIV. / The gradual increase of the number of cases of AIDS among women and consequently of the vertical transmission of the HIV, comes assuming great importance in the epidemiologist, receiving special attention with the implementation from the recommendations of the Health department for the Prophylaxis of the vertical transmission of the HIV and anti-retroviral therapy in pregnant women. Despite the efforts directed for the development of the actions, the referring data the monitorization of the stages of intervention for the Prophylaxis of the vertical transmission of the HIV still are scarce and suggest diverse imperfections in the process. This study had as objective to identify the actions of Prophylaxis of the vertical transmission of the HIV, implemented by health professionals, in University Maternities of the City of Rio de Janeiro to the light of the referential of the Ministry of the Health. It is a exploratory, descriptive study with quantitative boarding. The study happened in three University maternities in the City of Rio de Janeiro in 2005, using as strategy for the collection of the data the documentary analysis. Was used 86 handbooks of all pregnant women carrying the HIV that had used the services of the involved maternities in the study in the year of 2004. From the results it was verified that the profile of the women taken care of in the university maternities does not differ from the current studies epidemiologists carried through in Brazil. About the specific moments for which the woman passes in the process of the gestation, childbirth and postpartum period, even in teaching hospitals, exists the difficulty of to implementing the recommendations of the protocol. It is concluded that the fact to have in many results a percentage below of the waited it is fault of the absence of registers in handbooks and that a set of questions must be object of interventions, for the managers of the searched institutions that when they had the instruments could correct the routes in the execution of the politics of Prophylaxis of the vertical transmission of the HIV.
