Previous issue date: 2011 / This work aimed at verifying the existence of an intersection between the display of the expletive there in LI didactic books and the assumptions of the generative investigation program, through the analysis of four books under the light of this theory and investigating the nature of the problematic acquisition of the expletive by students of Brazilian Portuguese. To accomplish such task, the linguistic aspects involved in the production of the expletive were studied in order to supply a theoretical support for the discussion. There does not seem to be an intersection between the way the expletive is displayed in the didactic books and the complexity which involves the use of the expletive, such as the notion that there are parameters in the languages that will establish their differences, as well as the existence of a universal principle which postulates that there are not sentences devoid of subjects. On the same token, there is not an attempt of promoting and intersection between the theoretical underpinnings and the activities developed in the books. The analysis showed no evidence of an attempt at supplying explanation in order to give students input able to promote a wider clarification about the use of the expletive, save for one of the books, that addresses a question to the student about the use of the expletive, which may constitute in an initial attempt to promote awareness that the production of the existential sentences presents differences in the two targeted languages. Therefore, we may conclude that the didactic books are not aligned with the theoretical model, which may lead to future research, based on the need of investigating a way of designing a didactic instrument that is able to help students understand the parametric differences between the two languages. / O presente trabalho teve por finalidade verificar a existência de uma possível intersecção entre a exposição do expletivo there em livros didáticos de LI e os postulados do programa gerativista de investigação, através da análise de quatro livros didáticos de LI à luz desta teoria e investigar a natureza da problemática da aquisição do expletivo por alunos falantes do PB. Para tanto, os aspectos linguisticos envolvidos na produção do expletivo foram estudados a fim de fornecer um suporte teórico para a discussão. Verificou-se que a complexidade de elementos dispostos na teoria que envolve o uso do expletivo, tais como a noção de que há parâmetros nas línguas que irão determinar as suas diferenças, ou de que um princípio universal das línguas postula que não ocorram frases destituídas de sujeito não se reflete na maneira como o expletivo é apresentado nos livros didáticos analisados, tampouco se pode perceber uma maneira de se promover uma intersecção entre os postulados teóricos e as atividades desenvolvidas nos livros. Através da análise realizada, não se encontrou evidências de uma tentativa de se fornecer explicações no sentido de dar ao aprendiz insumos que possam promover um maior esclarecimento sobre o uso do expletivo, com exceção de um dos livros, que propõe um questionamento ao aluno sobre o expletivo, podendo se configurar em uma tentativa inicial de promover uma consciência de que a produção das sentenças existenciais apresenta diferença nas duas línguas enfocadas. Portanto, conclui-se que os livros didáticos analisados não estão alinhados com o modelo teórico adotado, sendo lançada para uma futura pesquisa, a necessidade de se investigar um meio de, através dos postulados teóricos do gerativismo, elaborar um instrumento didático que auxilie o aluno na compreensão das diferenças paramétricas entre as duas línguas.
