Construcción de las masculinidades en hombres gais que usan Grindr.
El objetivo principal de está investigación es analizar la construcción de las masculinidades de hombres gais que usan Grindr, aplicación de encuentros sexuales y/o afectivos para hombres gais. Como objetivos secundarios se busca conocer las diferencias entre las masculinidades virtuales y las del cotidiano, así como explorar la importancia del cuerpo. Las masculinidades son entendidas como diversas, cambiantes y socialmente construidas, mientras que la hegemonía masculina se presenta como la única manera de ser un “verdadero hombre” buscando la subordinación de los cuerpos y la acumulación de poder. Para alcanzar los objetivos mencionados se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a nueve hombres gais que usan Grindr mediante la metodología cualitativa. La guía de preguntas tiene tres áreas a) Construcción de las masculinidades gais en el cotidiano, b) Construcción de las masculinidades virtuales gais en Grindr y c) El cuerpo en las masculinidades virtuales gais en Grindr. A partir del análisis se encontró que los hombres gais experimentan diferentes niveles de violencia desde pequeños, en el colegio, la familia y con sus pares, esto provoca que adapten la masculinidad hegemónica heterosexual a sus vivencias como hombres gais, construyendo su propia forma de hegemonía tanto dentro como fuera de la aplicación. Luego, conformen salen del clóset, van deconstruyendo está hegemonía y aceptando sus masculinidades disidentes. En todo este proceso el cuerpo es fundamental para su expresión de género, ya que se irá adaptando a lo que quieran mostrar de acuerdo a sus vivencias tanto dentro como fuera de la aplicación / Construction of gay masculinities on gays who use Grindr
The present investigation aim to analyze how gay men construct their masculinities on Grindr, an app for sexual or romantic encounters between men. Also aims to understand the differences between their virtual and everyday masculinities and to explore the importance of the body in all this process. Masculinities are known as a diverse group of attributes, behaviors and roles that are socially constructed and differs according to context, while hegemonic masculinity is consider the “only good way” of being a men, it seeks to accumulate power and to dominate other subordinate bodies, independently of their sexual orientation. To seek this objectives nine semi-structured interviews were held on gay men who uses Grindr following the qualitative methodology. Each interview had three main areas a) Construction of gay masculinities on the day-to-day, b) Construction of gay virtual masculinities on Grindr and c) The body and gay virtual masculinities on Grindr. This research found that gay men experience different forms of violence through their lives, due to their non-normative masculinities. In order to protect themselves from the violence, they adapt the hegemonic heterosexual masculinity to their own experiences as gay men. As they grow up and get a better understanding of their masculinities, they step aside from the hegemony and build their own diverse and complex masculinities, these will adapt to where they are, what they want to show and what they want to achieve. In that regard, the body and their gender expressions are key to their masculinities, since it allows them to express their non-normative masculinities.
