Orientador: João Lima Sant'Anna Neto / Resumo: Estudou-se a relação entre a degradação ambiental e a qualidade de vida nas áreas de palafitas em São Luís - MA, especificamente na bacia do Rio Anil, localizada a Noroeste da Ilha, com 13,8Km de extensão, analisando as variáveis mais apropriadas que minimizem os problemas ambientais da área. Para isso, foram realizadas pesquisas "in loco", conversas com moradores e aplicação de questionários. A partir dos dados obtidos, foi possível analisar e determinar a qualidade de vida dos moradores, onde conclui-se que é a pior possível, pois, percebe-se nitidamente a ausência de elementos básicos para a sobrevivência humana: saneamento, segurança, transporte, escolaridade, saúde, habitação, renda e emprego. Revelando a inadequação da ocupação urbana nas áreas de manguezais, onde observa-se a incompatibilidade da ocupação urbana nas áreas de manguezais, havendo um descompasso entre legislação urbana em disciplinar a ocupação racional das áreas costeiras, mostrando serem essenciais o planejamento e o desenvolvimento de mecanismos específicos que garantam a ocupação racional da bacia. / Abstract: It was studied the relationship between the environmental degradation and the life quality in the palafitas areas at São Luís - MA, specifically in the basin of Anil, located river in the Northwest of the Island, with 13,8Km of extension, analyzing the most appropriate variables than they minimize the environmental problems of the area. For that, researches "in loco" were used, chats with population and application of questionnaires. Starting from the obtained data, it allowed to analyze and to determine the quality of the inhabitants' life, where it is ended that is the possible worst, because, it is noticed the absence of basic elements sharply for the human survival: sanitation, safety, transport, school, health, habitation, income and employment. Revealing the inadequacy of the urban occupation in the areas of growth of mangroves, where the incompatibility of the urban occupation is observed in the areas of growth of mangroves, having a among urban legislation in disciplining the rational occupation of the coastal areas, showing be essential the planning and the development of specific mechanisms that guarantee the rational occupation of the basin. / Mestre
