Para sustentar essa tese e argumentar contra a presença da religião na escola pública, desenvolvemos um estudo na perspectiva do materialismo histórico-dialético, entendendo-o como um referencial teórico-metodológico indissociável da concepção marxista da história humana. Partindo dessa premissa buscamos em autores marxistas contribuições para uma análise historicizadora e crítica do fenômeno religioso. Tal análise evidenciou o caráter essencialmente alienante das religiões, bem como o caráter circunstancialmente progressista que certos movimentos religiosos podem assumir em determinados contextos históricos. Igualmente buscamos analisar o pensamento pós-moderno na perspectiva da totalidade do processo histórico e das relações entre base econômica e a super-estrutura ideológica contrapondo-nos explícita e deliberadamente à fragmentação e ao subjetivismo que caracterizam esse tipo de pensamento. Tal análise mostrou que o irracionalismo pós-moderno é um terreno extremamente fértil para a proliferação das mais diversas e alienantes formas de crença religiosa. Debruçamo-nos sobre a retórica da igreja católica por ser a instituição religiosa que maior influência tem exercido em termos de pressão sobre o estado brasileiro em defesa da existência do ensino religioso nas escolas públicas. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The central assumption of this work is that the postmodernist relativism contributes nowadays to the ideological legitimation of religious instruction in Brazilian public schools in both perspectives the ecumenical and the multiculturalist one. To support this assumption and to argue against the presence of religion inside the public schools, we developed a study from the materialistic historical dialectical perspective assumed as a theoretical and methodological approach inseparable of Marxist theory of human history. From this start point we searched in Marxist authors contributions to a historicizing and critical analysis of the religious phenomenon. That analysis made evident the essentially alienated nature of religions as well as the character circumstantially progressive that some religious movements can have in certain historical contexts. We also tried to analyse the postmodern thought from the perspective of the totality of the historical process and from the perspective of the relations between the economical basis and the ideological super-structure. In this way we opposed explicitly and deliberately our method to the fragmentation and subjectivism typical in postmodernist thought. Our analysis showed that the postmodern irrationalism is an extremely fertile terrain to the proliferation of the most diverse and alienated kind of religious believes. We looked into the Catholic Church's rhetoric because it is the most influential institution among those that make pressure on the Brazilian State in defence of the existence of religious instruction in public schools.
