Orientador: Antonio Vicente Marafioti Garnica / Banca: Maria Laura Magalhães Gomes / Banca: Mirian Maria Andrade Gonçalez / Resumo: Esse trabalho tem a intenção de apresentar um olhar para o Movimento Matemática Moderna a partir da análise da obra didática Matemática: Curso Ginasial, publicada pelo School Mathematics Study Group (SMSG), em 1967. Ao concebermos os livros didáticos como formas simbólicas, mobilizamos o referencial metodológico da Hermenêutica de Profundidade para interpretá-los. Dessa forma, foram considerados seus aspectos formais e o contexto sócio-histórico em que a obra que focamos em nosso estudo foi produzida. Assim, buscamos compreender e tecer considerações sobre como o contexto pode ter influenciado a elaboração da obra e vice-versa; sobre algumas das influências que os livros do SMSG tiveram na educação brasileira; sobre as relações entre os conteúdos e metodologias de ensino apresentados; e sobre os vários significados que podem ser atribuídos à expressão "Matemática Moderna" / Abstract: The main intention of this work is to sketch some remarks on the Modern Mathematics Movement based on one of the textbooks - Mathematics for Junior High School (Brazilian version) - published, according to the ideals of that Movement, by the School Mathematics Study Group (SMSG), in 1967. In order to do that, we choose to apply Hermeneutic of the Depth (HP) as the main methodology, which implies to conceive textbooks as symbolic forms. So, in this interpretative approach, we consider the formal aspects of the symbolic form and the social and historical context in which the book was published and, perhaps, used in Junior High Schools classrooms. This hermeneutical approach also implies some efforts to understand the global and local contexts and how they probably influenced the elaboration of the book; the influences of that book for the Brazilian education; and the relations between the content and the teaching methodologies.
