Utvecklingsprojekt av förpackning inom livsmedelsindustrin

This report covers the thesis done by mechanical engineering at the engineering program at the University of Halmstad. Student Work Development of packaging in the food industry includes 15 credits and has performed over 20 weeks in spring 2009. The thesis work is a compulsory part of education and aimed at the student must apply the knowledge it has given during training in a project related to reality.

Student work has been carried out in cooperation with Hanson & Möhringen AB and the project's main objective was to develop an environmentally friendly packaging to their brand Falk Salt.

When salt is one of the world's cheapest commodity was packing all the costs have to be as low as possible. This was a real challenge for us. By re-including the environmental impact of materials, Sweden's recycling statistics and what materials are to recover, we saw that the glass and paper is the best material from our specifications. These materials would be the base for our future eco-packaging.

Our winning formula for weighting meant that a consumer could use a refill system. The concept is to make a engångsköp of a glass jar and when it is empty, purchase a refill pack of paper. For calculations, we could see that in comparison with existing product could do volume savings of 24%.

The result was of the project is related to the concept. The concept has been transmitted to Hanson & Möhringen for further development. After the end of the project, the company can move forward with the concept and then apply it.
