<p>I det närmaste fri tillgång till fossila bränslen som olja och stenkol har varit en förutsättning för den industriella revolutionen i västvärlden och östra Asien. Den storskaliga användningen av fossila bränslen har dock resulterat i att halten av koldioxid i atmosfären har ökat. Koldioxid är atmosfärens viktigaste växthusgas och den ökande halten håller på att förändra jordens klimat. Denna studie fokuserar på hur samhällena i Sverige och andra länder kommer att påverkas av klimatförändringen. De andra länderna är Nederländerna i nordvästra Europa och nordafrikanska Sahel, som inkluderar flera stater. Klimatförändringen kommer att drabba samhällena i de båda regionerna på väldigt olika sätt. I Sverige liksom i Nederländerna kommer klimatet att bli fuktigare, vilket samhällets olika funktioner redan förbereder sig för. Situationen i Sahel är helt annorlunda, där kommer klimatet att bli torrare. Dessa länder är fattiga och kunnande såväl som resurser är knappa, vilket innebär att dessa länder få det svårt att anpassa sig till de nya förhållandena. Det har även varit av intresse att studera nationella såväl som internationella överenskommelser med ambitionen att minska användningen av fossila bränslen. Intervjuer genomfördes för att få information om kunskapsläget rörande klimatförändringar och dess konsekvenser för Sverige och övriga världen. Som lärare i geografi, såväl som i andra ämnen, är det viktigt att stödja kunskapsutvecklingen vad det gäller klimatförändringen med de problem och möjligheter som följer.</p> / <p>The industrial revolution in the western world and later on in East Asia has only been possible due to extensive use of fossil fuel, like petroleum and coal. This has resulted in increased concentrations of carbondioxid in the atmosphere. Carbondioxid is the most important greenhouse gas and increasing levels in the atmosphere are underway to cause a global climate change. The focus of this thesis was to study how societies in Sweden as well in other countries will be affected in the long term by a climate change. The other countries investigated are the Netherlands in North Western Europe and the North African Sahel, including a number of states. The climate change will have a very different impact on the societies in these two regions. In Sweden as well as in the Netherlands the climate will become moister and preparations for these consequences are taken care of. The situation in the Sahel is totally different since the climate will become drier and will result in drought. These countries are poor and both knowledge and resources are scarce, so there are small possibilities to adapt to the new conditions. It is also of interest to study national as well as international agreements to reduce the use of fossil fuel. Interviews were performed to get information about the knowledge of climate change and its consequences for Sweden as well as well for other parts of the world. As a teacher in Geography, as well as in other subjects, it is of importance to improve the knowledge of problems as well as possibilities regarding climate change and its consequences for the society.</p>
