Sjuksköterskan som arbetar på en akutmottagning har ett varierande och ibland mycket krävande arbete. Studier har visat att patienttrycket på akutmottagningarna är stort vilket medför en stor arbetsbörda för sjuksköterskan. Syftet med studien var att belysa sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av sin yrkesroll på akutmottagningen. Metoden som användes var en litteraturstudie med en deduktiv ansats där resultatet baserades på nio vetenskapliga artiklar. Innehållet av dessa analyserades med sjuksköterskans sex kärnkompetenser som grund. Resultatet visade att sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av att jobba på en akutmottagning hade en viss koppling till fem av de sex kärnkompetenserna. Sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av att jobba på en akutmottagning visade att hen bör sträva efter att arbeta med personcentrerad vård. Hen bör kunna visa god förståelse, sympati och empati gentemot patienterna samt kunna kommunicera med både kollegor och patienter i syfte att utföra ett säkert och effektivt arbete. Ytterligare utbildning i grundutbildningen angående klinisk bedömning och prioritering av patienter samt ytterligare forskning om sätt att försöka minska patienttrycket på akutmottagningarna är önskvärt för att kunna utveckla akutsjukvården. / The work a nurse does at an emergency department varies a lot and can sometimes be very demanding. Studies have shown that the amount of patients turning to the emergency department for help has increased which in turn gives a major increase in the nurses’ workload. The purpose of this study was to examine nurses' experiences of their professional role in the emergency department. The method used for this study was a literature study and the results were based on nine research articles. The content of these articles were examined using the six nursing core competencies as foundation. The results showed that the experiences of the nurse working in the emergency department had some ties to five of the six core competencies. The nurse’s experience pointed at the fact the he or she always should emphasize the patient-centered care. The nurse should also show understanding, empathy and sympathy towards the patient and also be able to communicate with both colleagues and patients in order distribute care in a safe and effective manner. A broader education in nursing school regarding clinical assessment and the prioritizing of the patients and also further research regarding ways to reduce the pressure at the emergency department is desirable in order to develop the emergency healthcare.
