The purpose of this study has been to examine how the working methods and activities of Karlstad LS were organized and developed during the years 1916 to 1917. The study also addresses to which extent the unions work was carried out in accordance with the ideology of the syndicalist, as it is formulated within the SAC. By combining a deductive and an inductive working method the study interprets the source material and tries to reach the truth behind it. The paper is based partly on the board meeting that Karlstad LS conducted between the years 1916 to 1917, and an ideology analysis, in which ideal types have been designed on the basis of previous research, and a propaganda work written by leading players in the SAC. In the course of the study it was essential to first explain what syndicalism is and then analyze the local activities in Karlstad. The practices and action of the union during a conflict with an employer at Skoghall have been analyzed with the ideal types. With the analysis the paper then determined whether the movement was ideologically embossed or more pragmatic in its approach with the employer. In the most cases Karlstad LS operated in accordance with SAC’s opinion by the acts they performed, but sometimes it was also very difficult to follow all the aspect of the ideology. For example, to conduct an absolute battle where no compromises should be made is not immediately viable in practice. A union had to be more pragmatic in some situation in order to relate to reality. / Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka hur Karlstads LS verksamhet organiserades och utvecklades i arbetsformer och ideologi mellan åren 1916 – 1917. Den har vidare tagit upp i vilken mån fackföreningens arbete utfördes i enlighet med den syndikalistiska ideologin, så som den formulerats inom Sveriges Arbetares Centralorganisation (SAC). Genom att använda en deduktiv och induktiv metod tolkar uppsatsen källmaterialet och försöker nå dess sanning. Uppsatsen är byggd på styrelseprotokoll för Karlstads LS åren 1916-1917. Genom en idé- och ideologianalys analyseras den praktiska verkligheten med en konstruerad idealtyp av syndikalistisk ideologi från tiden. I genomförandet av undersökningen var det väsentligt att först förklara vad syndikalism är för något, för att sedan analysera den lokala verksamheten i Karlstad. En konflikt mellan facket och en arbetsgivare på Skoghall har analyserats utifrån idealtypen. Uppsatsen behandlar sedan frågan om rörelsen var ideologiskt präglad eller mer pragmatisk i sina kontakter med arbetsgivaren. I de flesta fall följde Karlstads LS SAC:s åskådning genom de handlingar de utförde men ibland var det även väldigt svårt att i varje situation fullborda ideologin. Att till exempel föra en absolut strid där inga kompromisser skulle ske är inte direkt gångbart i praktiken. Som facklig organisation var man tvungen att vara mer pragmatisk i vissa situationer och förhålla sig till verkligheten.
