The purpose of the study is to investigate how teachers value fiction and how they use it in their everyday teaching. My investigation will be based on a questionnaire presented to teachers in Karlstad and it will focus on their usage of fiction in their everyday teaching. Based on the answers from the questionnaire I have chosen four teachers, two teachers with a similar method of teaching fiction and two using multiple styles when teaching fiction. In addition to these four I have chosen two teachers that will constitute a more traditional way of teaching fiction. These six semi-structured interviews will give me an insight in how fiction is taught in different schools in Karlstad. The result shows that most schools in Karlstad teach in a similar way when it comes to teaching fiction. Most students have their own book and they spend approximately 2-4 hours every week reading them. Reading aloud is the most frequently used teaching method but there are other methods such as drama and discussions. The interviews gave me a deeper understanding of how and why they used their respective methods but also how they would like to improve and develop their teaching when it comes to fiction. My personal reflection is that all teachers believe that reading fiction is an important part of their everyday teaching even though their methods for doing so vary from teacher to teacher.
