Sociologiundervisning inom samhällskunskap : En kvalitativ studie om samhällskunskapslärares förståelse för att undervisa i sociologi på gymnasiet

The aim of this study is to increase the understanding of how teachers in social studies express their subject conceptions. This is done by using a qualitative study which analyzes how three teachers understand the subject of sociology. Sociology is one of three sciences which the social studies subject mainly consists of in Sweden. The respondents also describe how their teaching about sociology is expressed in the subject of social studies.    The results show that the teachers understand sociology as a subject consisting of facts, concepts, analyzes and discussions, but the analytical dimension is the most emphasized subject conception among them. They also express an analytical understanding when they describe their teaching in social studies. Sociological concepts and facts are not used when the respondents discuss their teaching.   This study contributes to knowledge about the identity of the social studies subject. The result enables discussion about how teachers subject conceptions can be related to their understanding of teaching sociology in social studies.
