Introduktion: Operationssjuksköterskan har ett omfattande yrkesansvar som innebär specifik kompetens i en komplex perioperativ arbetsmiljö. Det ställs höga krav på operationssjuksköterskans kompetens och förmåga att kunna samarbeta med andra yrkesprofessioner i en högteknologisk arbetsmiljö. Operationssjuksköterskans perspektiv skildras och examensarbetet bidrar till att ge ökad kunskap och fördjupa förståelsen för vilka utmaningar som upplevs. Syfte: Att beskriva operationssjuksköterskans upplevelse av utmaningar i sitt dagliga arbete inom perioperativ vård. Metod: Kvalitativ metod med induktiv ansats genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med tio operationssjuksköterskor. Resultatet analyserades med manifest kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Analysen av resultatet ledde fram till ett tema; ”Att bibehålla sin professionalitet i en produktiv arbetsmiljö” samt tre kategorier; ”Produktionskrav från verksamheten”, ”Att bibehålla ett professionellt förhållningssätt” och ”Förmåga till situationsanpassning och att vara beredd inför det oförutsedda” där olika upplevelser av operationssjuksköterskors utmaningar beskrevs utifrån att vara effektiv och ändå vara professionell samt alltid ha handlingsberedskap för det oförutsedda i perioperativa vårdarbetet. Konklusion: Operationssjuksköterskan påverkas av ökade produktionskrav inom perioperativ vård. Utmaningen i arbetet omfattar professionellt förhållningssätt och kunna genomföra sitt arbete under fysiskt krävande förhållanden och under psykisk stress. Att vara professionell, kunna samarbeta och kommunicera samt ha förståelse för varandras kompetens i operationsteamet. Vid akuta situationer synliggörs operationssjuksköterskans specifika kompetens och handlingsberedskap. / Introduction: The operating theater nurse [OTN] has an extensive professional responsibility that involves specific competence in a complex perioperative work environment. High demands are placed on the OTN’s competence and ability to collaborate with other professions in a high-tech work environment. The OTN's perspective is described and the degree project contributes to providing increased knowledge and deepening the understanding of the challenges that are experienced. Aim: To describe the OTN's experience of challenges in their daily work in perioperative care. Method: Qualitative method with inductive approach through semi-structured interviews with ten OTN’s. The result was analyzed with manifest qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis of the results led to a theme; "Maintaining professionalism in a productive work environment" and three categories; "Production requirements from the business", "Maintaining a professional approach" and "Ability to adapt to situations and be prepared for the unforeseen" where different experiences of OTN’s challenges were described on the basis of being effective and still be professional and always have readiness for action for the unforeseen in perioperative work. Conclusion: The OTN is affected by increased production requirements in perioperative care. The challenge at work includes a professional approach and being able to carry out one's work under physically demanding conditions and under mental stress. To be professional, be able to collaborate and communicate and have an understanding of each other's competence in the operating team. In emergency situations, the OTN’s specific competence and readiness for action are made visible.
