This study begins with a presentation of civics teachers’ free space in their selection of topics regarding their daily lectures with their students. The study also presents a new view on Swedish school systems, where an increased threat level, perceived or real, is always present. To support this view there is a statement regarding Swedish teachers unions closing down schools due to unsecure working environment for their members and that the unions also educate their members to be safe and to keep their students safe during a school attack. After this intro the problem for this study is presented and this studies purpose is to answer the question whether teachers is affected by the school attacks regarding their selection of topics in civics, more specific their selection of controversial topics. For this there has been a theory to break perceived eco-chambers to analyse the answers given in this study. And the method of choice for this study is a qualitative, semi structured interviews has been done with four teachers in civics. These interviews have afterwards been processed and analysed with the help of a thematic model, where the teachers answers has given different themes in their answers and these themes has then been compiled to the studies answers. The results shows that the four teachers chosen for the interviews is not affected by the new view of the Swedish school that is presented in the intro. Although the teachers mention that in discussions with their peers there has been mentioned of topics that has been disregarded due to fear of conflict with students. The result also shows that teaches have difficulties to name controversial topics due to that this is regarding to class reactions. / Denna studie presenterar i sin inledning de friutrymme som svenska lärare har kopplat till deras dagliga verksamhet. Vidare presenteras också en ny bild av svensk skola där en ökad hotbild, upplevd eller verklig, är ständigt närvarande. Facken har både stängt skolor på grund av alldeles för otrygg miljö för deras medlemmar och facken utbildar även medlemmar i inrymmning, alltså hur medlemmarna skall agera vid en skolattack. Denna inledning mynnar sedan ut i frågeställningar som rör hur lärare i samhällskunskap gör ett urval för att utröna om denna nya bild av svensk skola är något som påverkar deras urval av ämnen i samhällskunskapen, framför allt kopplat till kontroversiella ämnen. Till detta har en teori valts som skall försöka att bryta upplevda eko-kammare och filterbubblor, för att analysera svaren. För att besvara frågeställningar har kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer gjorts med fyra lärare. Dessa intervjuer har sedan gåtts igenom med en tematisk analys där svaren har bidragit med vissa teman som besvarar uppsatsens frågeställningar. I resultatet kan vi se att lärarna som intervjuats i denna studie inte känner sig påverkade av ”hotbilden” mot svensk skola. Det nämns dock att de har hört talas om kollegor som väljer bort ämnen på grund av rädsla för konflikter med eleverna. Resultatet visar också att lärare idag har svårt att peka ut specifika ämnen som kontroversiella utan att detta har med elevgruppens reaktion att göra.
