In this thesis three different drum solos are studied which clearly has the composition as a basis. They are transcribed and analyzed in how they use the compositions in their solo playing. These ways of soloing will be the underline to create different practices. These practices were made to implement these solo techniques into my own playing. This thesis also studied which compositions that can be easy or hard for a drummer to have as a basis, and why. This study was presented as a concert with a piano trio. The result shows the importance of structure. The solo doesn’t need to reflect the specific song, but it needs to create its own structure to make it more coherent for the listener. This perspective opened a lot of possibilities for me as a soloist, but also showed that it’s the start of a long path in development. /
Repertoar:

Blues on Sunday - Joshua Redman

Long Ago and Far Away - Jerome Kern

Duke Ellington's Sound of Love - Charles Mingus

Introspection - Thelonious Monk

Stepp, min Stepp - Jan Johansson

Konrads Hopp om Livet - Fredrik Ljungkvist

Medverkande:

David Stener - Piano

Olle Lannér Risenfors - Kontrabas

Filip Öhman - Trummor

Transkriptioner:

Roy Haynes solo på In Walked Bud, Thelonious Monk Quartet.
