Not by the by the book – Learning by vibing: Informal learning between equals. Today’s Sweden can in several aspects be considered to bear potential of acting as a cultural melting pot. Different cultural expressions and meetings are uttered in diverse societal settings. Musical meetings as such can frequently be observed in public arenas such as culture houses, public recreational spots and -centres. This study intends to explore the informal learning process obtained in a staged multicultural musical meeting between persons from diverse ethnic and cultural settings. The study includes three musicians with seemingly different cultural and musical backgrounds, who were brought together on three occasions to create an original piece of music. Methodologically the study uses individual opening interviews with each participant, followed by observations through the three sessions. Through the participants joint creative process in assembling an original piece of music, the study finds that the learning process is characterized by implicit, informal learning between the participants. However, the participants also display elements of mutual explicit learning throughout the process.
