Varför är Uruguay en starkare demokrati än Argentina? : En teoribeprövande fallstudie om bakomliggande faktorer varför Uruguay varit en framgångsrikare demokrati än Argentina 2002–2019

This thesis tries to shed light on the reasons why Uruguay has been classified as a stronger liberal democracy than Argentina between the years of 2002-2019. The essay is a theory-testing case study with a theoretical framework based on the concept of democratic consolidation of Stepan and Linz. Empirical material to answer the questions and the purpose of this case study. The conclusion of the essay is that Uruguay is a stronger and more liberal Argentina because of reasons as a better functioning state, stronger civil rights, and lower levels of corruption. Also, the fact that the population of Uruguay during 2002-2019 has shown proof of more positive attitudes to democracy as a political system and higher confidence in political and public institutions.
