Programmering som Digitalt verktyg i Gymnasieskolan

In my work I had 3 important questions that I was seeking to answer and wanted to knowmore about. These are as follows. What competencies relating to programming do our students need to develop to be able tocontribute to society in 2030, when today’s students are getting established in theiroccupational roles? What do we as a school need to develop / change to be at the forefront of an increasinglydigitalized world? How do students and teachers view their digital skills in school today? My interest in answering these questions lies in the importance of understanding what thefuture will bring in terms of digitalization and how to best meet the needs of students in thatcontext. My method of investigation was surveying my fellow teachers and asking themextensively about their views on the pros and cons of digitalization in school. I also had thehelp of the Swedish teacher in my workplace, we had a collaboration where we had ourstudents do presentational work on the topic. This way I was also able to record theperspective of the student. What my research has shown is that the development ofdigitalization has been rapid and shows no signs of slowing. Therefore, we must be quick toadapt to new changes in order to reap the fruits of this development. The more knowledgestudents and teachers acquire in the field of programming the more involved we can be in thedevelopment of new tools and methods. We will also be able to better understand the toolsand methods developed by others and will be able to use them more efficiently. Aside fromthe technical knowledge of coding it is apparent that more common skills will be asimportant. Skills such as Teamwork, reading/writing and problem solving need to beemphasized in combination with technical skills. Furthermore, to meet the demands of thefuture workplace, organizational skills, critical thinking and adaptation skills will also be ofhigh importance.
