Syfte: Syftet med studien är att undersöka tandläkares erfarenheter av bemötande på grund av genus och etnicitet i mötet med patienten, arbetskollegor och/eller klinikchef. Material och metod: Studien baseras på semistrukturerade intervjuer med fyra manliga och fyra kvinnliga tandläkare varav fem tandläkare hade utländsk bakgrund. Intervjuerna utfördes med yrkesverksamma tandläkare på Malmö universitet och Folktandvården Skåne. Allt material från intervjuerna spelades in på mobiltelefoner, transkriberades ned och materialet analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys (1). Resultat: Analysen av materialet resulterade i fyra teman: 1) Patienters skilda förväntningar på kvinnliga och manliga tandläkare, 2) Missgynnade tandläkare av arbetskollegor och klinikchef 3) Nedvärdering på grund av utländsk bakgrund och 4) Tandläkares problemhantering. Resultaten visar att majoriteten av intervjupersonerna upplevde ett negativt bemötande av patienter på grund av kön eller etnicitet. Intervjupersoner uppgav även erfarenheter av ett negativt bemötande på grund av kön av arbetskollegor och klinikchef. På frågan om hur de intervjuade skulle hantera ett problem med patienter svarade de flesta att de främst försöker lösa konflikten med patienten. De intervjuade beskrev även att andra lösningar skulle vara att tala med arbetskollegor och klinikchef. Samtliga intervjuade svarade nej på frågan om de är bekanta med jämställdhetsdokumenten. Slutsats: Kvinnliga tandläkare upplever ett negativt bemötande av patienter, arbetskollegor och klinikchefer på grund av deras kön. Manliga tandläkare beskriver att det beror på patienters trosuppfattning och inte på deras kön när de blir negativt bemötta av patienterna. Kvinnliga och manliga tandläkare upplever att de bemöts med stereotypiska förväntningar. Tandläkare med utländsk bakgrund upplever att de har blivit negativt bemötta på grund av deras etnicitet, däremot krävs mer forskning om betydelsen av tandläkares etnicitet. / Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine dentists' experiences of treatment due to gender and ethnicity in the meeting with the patient, work colleagues and/or clinic manager. Material and method: The study is based on semi-structured interviews with four male and four female dentists. The interviews were conducted with dentists at Malmo University and Folktandvarden Skane. All material from the interviews was recorded on mobile phones, transcribed and the material was analyzed using qualitative content analysis (1). Results: The analysis of the material resulted in four themes: 1) Patients' different expectations of female and male dentists, 2) Disadvantaged dentists by work colleagues and clinic manager 3) Devaluation due to foreign background and 4) Dentists' problem management. The results show that the majority of interviewees experienced a negative treatment of patients because of gender or ethnicity. Interviewees also stated experiences of negative treatment due to gender by work colleagues and clinic manager. When asked how the interviewees would handle a problem with patients, most answered that they primarily would try to resolve the conflict with the patient. The interviewees also described that other solutions would be to talk to work colleagues and the clinic manager. All interviewees answered no to the question of whether they are familiar with the equality documents. Conclusion: Female dentists experience negative treatment from patients, work colleagues and clinic managers because of their gender. Male dentists describe that it depends on patients' beliefs and not their gender when they are treated negatively. Female and male dentists feel that they are met with stereotypical expectations. Dentists with a foreign background feel that they have been treated negatively because of their ethnicity, however, more research is needed on the significance of dentists' ethnicity.
