"DU FÅR EN MOTGÅNG OCH TÄNKER ATT DU ALLTID KAN GÅ TILLBAKA TILL KRIMINALITETEN" : En kvalitativ studie om att komma ur eller återfalla i kriminalitet

This study aims to highlight the reasons why individuals relapse into crime, as well as what reasons motivate people to leave a life of crime behind. In order to be able to answer the purpose of the study, qualitative research approaches have been used. One of the qualitative research approaches included three semi-structured interviews; in which two separate interviews were conducted with the Correctional Service and one group interview with Kris. Furthermore, hermeneutics and a Thematic analysis method were applied to process and analyze the study's collected material. The study's previous research mainly consists of scientific articles from different countries, which aim to provide a better understanding of elements that can cause individuals to relapse into crime as well as what compels people to evolve and leave the criminal lifestyle behind. In addition, the theories of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and the Labeling theory have been used to acquire a deeper understanding of the reasons as to why people relapse into crime, as well as what causes people to abandon a life of crime. The results of this study have shown that there are similar elements that can cause people to relapse back into crime. For instance, a lack of social support and financial difficulties. Additionally, the study also highlights elements that motivate individuals to abandon criminality altogether, such as a good social network and support programs. During the interviews, some of the subjects also expressed that they do not believe that society offers sufficient crime prevention efforts to criminals. Thus, it is important to obtain new knowledge about crime and develop effective cooperation with relevant tools that prevent the societal problem.
