The purpose of of this thesis has been to clarify the promotion of health by inter alia improving socio-economic conditions for persons with disabilities investigating three human rights conventions and one of the Swedish Constitutional Laws through Qualitative Content Analysis. The human rights conventions are the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Convention on theRrights of the Child and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The purpose has also been to explore the possibilities of designing a checklist that can be used to ensure the compliance with international agreements on human rights in relation to the health of persons with disabilities in relevant documents, such as state law and guidelines. The main results shows that the international agreements on human rights are sufficent to ensure persons with disabilities a life of self determination. It also becomes evident that health and human rights have much in common, and that these disciplines could develop a deeper underständing of the relationship between compliance of human rights and health to the benefit of persons with disabilities.
