[pt] A decisão de investir é crítica para as empresas, pois
estas possuem
objetivos de criação de valor para seus acionistas ou
controladores. Grandes
corporações têm suas ações negociadas em bolsas de valores
e, caso apresentem
retorno sobre capital inferior à expectativa dos
acionistas, estes venderão suas
ações para investir em outras empresas, agravando o
problema de perda de valor.
Portanto, o Custo de Capital é um tema central em Finanças
Corporativas. Tem
grande impacto sobre as decisões de investimentos e
abandono de investimentos,
análises de lucratividade e avaliações de desempenho. Dando
prosseguimento a
trabalhos acadêmicos realizados nos E.U.A. e na Argentina,
o objetivo desta
pesquisa é conhecer as práticas de estimativa de custo de
capital no Brasil. Além
da grande relevância do assunto Custo de Capital, busca-se,
ao publicar os
resultados da pesquisa e a dissertação resultante, oferecer
um serviço público -
uma ferramenta prática e de uso imediato - às comunidades
acadêmica e
corporativa. / [en] Investment decisions are critical for corporations, which
have to create
value for their shareholders. Large corporations have
stocks traded in the stock
market and, if they deliver return on capital below
expectations, shareholders will
sell the stocks in their hands, in order to invest in other
companies, and problem
of loosing value will be even worse. Therefore, the cost of
capital is central to
Corporate Finance. It strongly impacts investment and
divestment decisions,
measures of profitability, and performance evaluation.
Continuing previous
academic studies about corporations in the U.S. and
Argentina, the objective of
this research is to know the practices in estimating the
cost of capital in Brazil.
Besides the relevance of the Cost of Capital as a subject,
by publishing the results
of this research and the resulting dissertation, we intend
to provide the academic
and corporate communities with a practical and ready-to-use
tool.
