D’une Église et d’un État différenciés mais alliés sous l’Ancien Régime, nous allons assister à la naissance, avec la Révolution, d’une situation conflictuelle qui débouchera sur une séparation de l’Église et de l’État. C’est un moment de cette dynamique qu’il convient d’étudier avec la Constitution civile du clergé. Nous assistons alors à l’apparition d’une nouvelle Église et non à un simple remaniement de l’ancienne. Il s’agit également de rappeler la mise en place de la politique religieuse de la Révolution par l’administration centrale avec le relais de l’administration locale. Il convient ensuite d’évoquer la répercussion de cette politique dans l’Église du Rouergue dont l’organisation et la vie ont été bouleversées en profondeur. En somme, le sujet consiste à mieux approcher, à mieux comprendre, les mentalités et les comportements des hommes, des groupes sociaux, politiques ou religieux durant l’époque révolutionnaire. La période révolutionnaire, avec ses persécutions, ses arrestations, ses interrogatoires donne beaucoup de renseignements sur les mentalités des hommes et des femmes du Rouergue. En cette période troublée, la résistance s’organise, prenant des formes extrêmement variées. Ces différents évènements annoncent la crise religieuse qui secouera vivement le Rouergue, crise qui connaîtra son paroxysme sous la Terreur et se prolongera même jusqu’au Concordat de 1801. / A church and a State differentiated but Allied under the Ancien Regime, we will attend the birth, with the Revolution, of a conflict situation which will lead to a separation of Church and State. It is a moment of this dynamic that should be explored with the Civil Constitution of the clergy. Then, we are witnessing the emergence of a new Church and not a simple reworking of the former. It also recalled the establishment of the religious policy of the Revolution by the Central Government with the relay of local administration. Should then discuss the impact of this policy in the Church of Rouergue, which the Organization and life have been disrupted in depth. In short, the subject is better approach, to better understand the attitudes and behaviour of men, social, political or religious groups during the revolutionary period. The revolutionary period, with its persecution, his arrests, his interrogations gives a lot of information on the attitudes of men and women in the Rouergue. In this troubled period, the resistance is organized, extremely varied forms. These events announce the religious crisis which will strongly shake the Rouergue, which will climax during the reign of terror and will continue even until the Concordat of 1801.
