La tesis analiza el tratamiento que los principales medios gráficos italianos de la Argentina de fines del siglo XIX otorgan a un hecho histórico complejo como la Guerra hispano-cubano-norteamericana del año 1898, y debate su posicionamiento sobre la cuestión independentista de Cuba, el definitivo ocaso del imperio colonial español y la emergencia de Estados Unidos en el tablero geopolítico global, en calidad de potencia capaz de desafiar los intereses del Viejo Mundo, tanto en la vertiente Atlántica como en la Pacífica. Focalizar la atención en los diarios de mayor difusión de la comunidad italiana de Buenos Aires en la época seleccionada permitirá reconstruir también su proceso de constitución y formación, incluyendo el terreno político e institucional en el cual estos proyectos editoriales toman forma, el contexto social y cultural que los genera y en el cual los mismos se disputan lectores y visibilidad. / The thesis analyses how the main Italian graphic media in Argentina at the end of the 19th century deal with a complex historical event such as the Spanish-Cuban-American War of 1898, and debates its position on the question of Cuban independence, the definitive decline of the Spanish colonial empire and the emergence of the United States on the global geopolitical chessboard, as a power capable of challenging the interests of the Old World on both the Atlantic and the Pacific sides. Focusing the attention on the newspapers with the largest circulation in the Italian community of Buenos Aires at the selected time will also allow to reconstruct their constitution and formation process, including the political and institutional background in which these editorial projects take shape, the social and cultural context that generates them and in which they compete for readers and visibility. / TEXTO PARCIAL en período de teletrabajo
