O presente estudo tem como objetivo refletir sobre as relações entre arte e público, ou seja, a mediação e os agentes de mediação que se estabeleceram no sistema da arte. O estudo compreende as mudanças ocorridas nas relações entre arte e público a partir do século XVIII, o surgimento dos museus modernos, e o trabalho realizado no Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand - MASP, desde sua criação, investigando as origens filosóficas e educacionais que nortearam as propostas dos agentes mediadores que atuaram no Museu. Com base em material documental e entrevistas, procurou-se esclarecer como foi feita a mediação educativa na década de 1970, e refletir sobre a contribuição dessas propostas de mediação para o Serviço Educativo do MASP atuante hoje. / The present study aims to reflect about the relationship between art and public, that is, mediation and the conciliation officers who settled in the art system. The study comprises changes in the relationship between art and audience from the 18TH century, the emergence of modern museums, and the work done at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand - MASP, since its inception, investigating the philosophical and educational backgrounds that guided the proposals of the mediators who worked at the Museum.
