Adel, Aleš January 2017 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with the use of short intervals of periodical regenerative pruning of woody plants in garden and landscape architecture (regular cuting down to near ground level, coppicing and periodical pruning higher above ground level, pollarding). Thesis summarize the most important fiels of this topic, mainly the biological and technological aspects, historical aspects of theese cultivation techniques, their value and current possibilities of application in garden and landscape architeture (in public green spaces and landscape, the compositional, ecological, production function etc.). In second (practical) part of thesis, there are proposed technologies of foundation and maintenance for three selected borders which are focused on the use of coppicing. For every technology is also compiled an itemized budget, which brings the cost of the establishment, development and maintenance care. In the end some basic principles of using coppicing and pollarding are processed.

Farní a klášterní zahrady

Ondráčková, Monika January 2019 (has links)
The thesis deals with the design of the area of a pilgrimage church and its neighbouring monastery in Štípa near Zlín. The literary research maps the general historical development of the monastic and parish gardens, and also tries to introduce these objects in the new light of today´s utilization, when the original function of these objects has disappeared or has been significantly transformed. On the basis of individual analyses and field surveys of the model area, three basic layers were established: historical, cultural and spiritual. These layers contribute significantly to the character, identity and genius loci of the place, and therefore have been selected as the basic pillars on which the resulting design is built. The aim of the proposal was not only to reflect the needs of current users and visitors of the building, but also to point out the unique historical and spiritual essence of this place.

Find a modern and quick method to determine the U value and the thermal characteristics of a building envelope using an IR camera

Thouvenel, Julie January 2012 (has links)
The overall heat transfer coefficient of a building wall, the U value, is an interesting parameter to deduce the heat loss rate through the wall. The current method to determine this U value is well known, but is requires a lot of time to be performed. In this work a new idea of methodology is presented to get an accurate idea of the U value in a really smaller time, using an IR camera. IR thermography is a non destructive method that is mainly used today to carry out qualitative observations. In this work it is used as a quantitative tool to determine the conductivity of a wall knowing the external heat transfer coefficient. The error obtained on homogeneous and heterogeneous walls are smaller than 10 %, which is accurate enough for a fast measurement. The thermal mass of the wall can also be estimated with errors between 5 and 20 %, but only if the user has a good first guess of the real value. Finally some ideas are proposed when the heat transfer coefficient is not known, leading to less reliable results. More work is necessary to transform it as a usable method in everyday life. A part of the report concerns some attempts done with a simulation of the experiment, leading to no concrete results but it is still presented as it took some time to be studied.

New radiometric age constraints on the Ordovician-Silurian boundary from Anticosti Island (eastern Canada) and the Siljan district (Sweden)

Cappello, Mariko 30 August 2019 (has links)
The transition from the end of the Ordovician to the beginning of the Silurian Period is characterized by the glaciation of the Gondwana paleocontinent, eustatic sea level change, a perturbation to the global carbon cycle and one of the ve major mass extinctions of the Phanerozoic Eon. Due to signi cant sea level fall, the Ordovician-Silurian (O-S) boundary is often marked by hiatus and exposure in the shallow marine geologic record (e.g., Copper et al. [2013]). Two locations that host stratigraphic succession close to the boudary are Anticosti Basin of Quebec (Canada, e.g., Desrochers et al. [2010]), and the carbonate mounds of the Siljan ring district (Dalarna County, Sweden, e.g., Ebbestad et al. [2015]). The exact timing and dynamics of the glaciation and mass extinction are yet to be understood. Similarly, the interplay between those events and the carbon cycle perturbation are still unclear. As a result, there is a serious need for radiometric age constraints in this crucial part of the Paleozoic Era. The acquisition of more radiometric dates, achieved in this study, aims to address the present dearth of absolute dates close to the boundary. The dates produced in this study represent the first modern geochronologic constraints on the O-S boundary, leveraging the development of the EARTHTIME initiative and the latest U-Pb dating techniques that have improved accuracy and allowed for dating of single zircon crystals at <=0.1% precision level. Here I present two new U-Pb zircon ages obtained via bentonite dating. The first bentonite, 443.61+-0.52 Ma (2, including analytical, tracer calibration and decay constant uncertainties) was collected from the base of the Lousy Cove Member, Ellis Bay Formation (Anticosti Island, Quebec, Canada). The second one, 443.28+-0.50 Ma (including analytical, tracer calibration and decay constant uncertainties) comes from a karstic void within the Boda Core Facies of the Boda Formation (Dalarna County, Sweden). U-Pb geochronology (chemical abrasion, isotope dilution, thermal ionization mass spectrometry: CA-ID-TIMS) on single zircons was used to obtain these ages. These results are the closest radiometric ages to the current O-S boundary (compared to any time constraints in the 2012 Geologic Time Scale) and allow to signifcantly reduce the uncertainty of the current age boundary (443.8+-1.5, Cohen et al. [2018]). Furthermore these absolute ages have been used to make models that explore drivers of Earth system change, such as an end-Ordovician global carbon cycle perturbation. / Graduate / 2022-07-07
