Study of Multiport Antenna Systems on Terminals for WLAN : MIMO Technology

Using more than just on antenna can significantly speed up the data rate in a wireless communication system. These systems are commonly referred to as Diversity- and MIMO-systems. Due to tight volume restriction for the antennas, e.g. in a mobile phone, electromagnetic coupling between the antennas will degrade the capacity of the wireless system and lower the coverage. In the proposed thesis, a thorough study of Ethertronics’ standard antennas will be established in which the antennas will be used in a multiport system, e.g. MIMO. The thesis will be strongly related to Ethertronics’ engagement in Chase and therefore also dependent on the latest progresses on MPA (Multiport Analyzer) developed in Chase. The thesis will result in a working methodology how to use MPA plus design-, location- and orientation rules for the standard antennas used in a multiport system.

Input-ouput approximation for nonlinear structural dynamics

Input¬output approximation of spacecraft motion is convenient and necessary in many situations. For a rigid¬body spacecraft, this process is simple because the system is governed by a set of equations that is linear in the system parameters. However, the combination of a flexible appendage and a rigid hub adds complexity by increasing the degrees of freedom and by introducing nonlinear coupling between the hub and appendage. Assumed Modes is one technique for modeling flexible body motion. Traditional Assumed Modes uses a set of linear assumed modes, but when dealing with rotating flexible systems, a modification of this method allows for the use of quadratic assumed modes. The quadratic assumed model provides an increased level of sophistication, but the derivation still neglects a set of higher¬order terms. This work develops the nonlinear equations of motion that arise from retaining these nonlinear, higher¬order terms. Simulation results reveal that the inclusion of these terms noticeably changes the motion of the system. Once the equations of motion have been developed, focus turns to the input¬output mapping of a system that is simulated using this set of equations. Approxi¬mating linear systems is straightforward, and many methods exist that can success¬fully perform this function. On the other hand, few approximation methods exist for nonlinear systems. Researchers at Texas A&M University recently developed one such method that obtains a linear estimation and then uses an adaptive polynomial estimation method to compensate for the disparity between that estimate and the true measurements. This research includes an in¬depth investigation of this nonlinear approximation technique. Finally, these two major research thrusts are combined, and input¬output approx¬imation is performed on the nonlinear rotational spacecraft model developed herein. The results of this simulation show that the nonlinear method holds a significant advantage over a traditional linear method in certain situations. Specifically, the nonlinear algorithm provides superior approximation for systems with nonzero natu¬ral frequencies. For the algorithm to be successful when rigid¬body modes are present, the system motion must be persistently exciting. This research is an important first step toward developing a nonlinear parameter identification algorithm.

Design of Model Reference Adaptive Tracking Controllers for Mismatch Uncertain Systems with Nonlinear Inputs

By using Lyapunov stability theorem, a quasi-optimal model reference adaptive control (QOMRAC) scheme is presented in this thesis to stabilize a class of uncertain systems with input nonlinearity. This control scheme contains two main types of controllers. The first type is a linear feedback controller, which is an optimal controller if the controlled systems do not have any perturbations. The second type is an adaptive controller, which is used for adapting the unknown upper bound of perturbation or perturbation estimation error. The property of uniformly ultimately boundness is guaranteed when employing the proposed control scheme, and the effects of each design parameter on the dynamic performance are also analyzed. An example is demonstrated for showing the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

The Impacts of Psychiatric Professionals Human Resource Inputs on Service Performance-The Experience of Seven Public Psychiatric Hospitals in Taiwan

Abstract There is no literature explores the relationship between manpower and performance of the Taiwan¡¦s psychiatric hospitals yet. This research takes samples from seven public psychiatric hospitals in Taiwan to investigate: 1. Performance measurement of psychiatric hospitals. 2. The influence of psychiatric hospitals¡¦ manpower inputs on service performance. The orientations of data analysis in this research are research framework and research hypotheses, and then collect data from seven domestic public psychiatric hospitals. According to the nature of gathered data, we applied SPSS software on Descriptive Statistics, Pearson Correlation Analysis, K-Means Cluster Analysis, and t-test for difference of two samples mean, to explore the relationship between manpower input and service performance. Research outcomes: 1¡BAlthough service items don¡¦t increase in high professional manpower structure compare to low professional manpower structure, the service amounts increased significantly. Test results show that the hypothesis 1-1 is not supported, but hypothesis 1-2 is supported. 2¡BGroups with higher manpower quality input have significant increasing in service items¡¦ performances, but not significant statistically. Even though groups with higher manpower quality increased service items, the service amounts do not raise. However, groups with lower manpower quality input have significant increasing in service amounts¡¦ performances. It means that the significantly negative correlation between manpower quality and service amounts¡¦ performances. Test results show the hypothesis 2-1 is not supported, neither is hypothesis 2-2. 3¡BEven though the service items¡¦ performances have no significant increasing in the groups with high formal and contracted personnel percentages input, the service amounts are increased significantly. Therefore, the difference of formal and contracted personnel percentages input has significant influence on service amounts. Test results show the hypothesis 3-1 is not supported, but hypothesis3-2 is supported. 4¡BPsychiatric hospitals with high manpower costs input do not increase service items, but increase service amounts. Test results show the hypothesis 4-1 is not supported, but hypothesis 4-2 is supported. ¡@The relationship between psychiatric hospital¡¦s manpower input and service performance is clearly realized through this research, which could be the reference for hospital managers to adjust profession manpower and to employ personnel in the future. Function of CikA in the cyanobacterial circadian system: the pseudo-receiver domain of CikA regulates the circadian input pathway

The circadian input kinase gene (cikA) was first identified from a Tn5 mutant of Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942. A cikA null strain shows a striking phenotype related to circadian gene regulation: all sampled loci show a shortened circadian period and reduced amplitude of oscillation and a failure to exhibit a wild-type resetting of the phase of the rhythm after an environmental signal. This global defect in response to the environment suggests a key role for CikA in the circadian input pathways. Bioinformatics results classify CikA as a divergent member of the bacteriophytochrome family, suggesting a role in light signal transduction. In vitro analysis previously showed that CikA is a bona fide histidine protein kinase (HPK), and its kinase activity is regulated by the presence of other domains. Its own pseudo-receiver (PsR) domain is not the cognate receiver domain of its kinase HPK domain, and its GAF domain does not likely bind a bilin chromophore as do photoreceptive phytochromes. Recent results suggested that CikA may function as a redox-sensor. In this study, we examined the function of each domain of CikA using different mutant cikA alleles, and determined their phenotypes with respect to complementation of a null mutant and overexpression in both wild type and cikA null strains. All domains except the featureless N-terminus were required for CikA function. Overexpression of all mutant alleles that encoded the PsR domain, whether or not the HPK was functional, caused a dominant arrhythmia phenotype. In the absence of PsR, overexpressed variants did not cause arrhythmia, but affected the amplitude and period of oscillation. The results suggest a model in which the PsR domain regulates kinase activity and mediates interaction with other input pathway components to allow CikA to reach the correct cellular position to fulfill its function. Cellular localization assays showed CikA can interact with a complex and showed a polar localization pattern, whereas its variant without PsR showed uniform distribution in the cell. In summary, CikA is an autoregulated kinase in which the PsR domain regulates activity of the HPK domain and also serves as an interaction module to lead the CikA to a specific cellular position.

Design Low Mutual Coupling WLAN/WiMAX Antenna for MIMO applications

In recent year, wireless communications systems require transmission of higher and higher data rates to foster various multimedia services. The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas system has been studied to increase wireless channel capacity and reliability. The mutual coupling of MIMO antennas affects the capacity of the wireless channel. Traditionally, the minimal mutual coupling distance between antenna elements needs to be at least one half wavelength. When MIMO antenna system is used in miniature mobile device, the problem of mutual coupling becomes even more serious. In the first part of this thesis we propose a WLAN/WiMAX antenna that can be operated in 2.4 GHz (2.4¡V2.48 GHz) WLAN band; 2.5 GHz (2.5¡V2.7 GHz) and 3.5 GHz (3.4¡V3.7 GHz) WiMAX band. We use the inverted U slot band notch and omega slot band notch to reduce the mutual coupling in MIMO antennas. Our design is able to reduce the mutual coupling to be less than ¡V20 dB in all interested bands. In the second part, we propose a planar WLAN/WiMAX antenna that can be operated in 2.4 GHz (2.4¡V2.48 GHz), 5.2/5.8GHz (5.15-5.35GHz/5.725-5.825GHz) WLAN band; 2.5 GHz (2.5¡V2.7 GHz), 3.5 GHz (3.4¡V3.7 GHz) and 5.5 GHz (5.25-5.85 GHz) WiMAX band and mutual coupling of MIMO antenna is less than ¡V20 dB in all interested bands.

Implementation of 4¡Ñ4 MIMO Detector using K-Best Sphere Decoding Algorithm

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a well-known technique for efficiently increasing bandwidth utilization. However, the implementation of the MIMO receiver with a reasonable hardware cost is a big challenge. Most MIMO receivers exploit minimum mean-square error (MMSE), zero-forcing (ZF) and maximum-likelihood (ML) to detect MIMO signals. Among the detectors, the ZF detector is simple detector with low computational complexity, but lower performance compared to ML decoder, which has huge computational complexity. If the K-Best sphere decoding algorithm (SDA) is adopted, the system complexity can be substantially reduced and the performance can approach that of the ML scheme when the value K is sufficiently large. In this paper, a hard-output MIMO detector is implemented using the K-Best SDA for 4¡Ñ4 64-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) MIMO detection. The implementation is realized by using a 0.18-£gm CMOS technology. The implementation chip core area is 3.35mm2 with 229K gates, and the decoding throughput is up to 3.12Mb/s with a 25MHz clock rate.

The Research of Economic Effect in Promoting Wireless Broadband Network Construction in Taiwan¡GAn Application of Input-Output Model

The new generation wireless broadband access technology-WiMAX¡]Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access¡^, possessing advanced features, such as higher transmission rates, longer transmission distances and wider coverage, is considered as one of the key technologies that can affect the future development of wireless telecommunications industry. Taiwan has ranked it a priority developing industry and has integrated the strengths of industries, government agencies, academia and research institutes to aggressively promote it in order to establish a more complete miniature of WiMAX industry chain. For the purposes of attracting information industry to enter this field, encouraging new applied services and development and achieving the goal of bringing services to push forward industry, the National Communication Commission¡]NCC¡^has issued 3 wireless broadband access business licenses in both north and south areas on July 2007. The bid-winners all adopts WiMAX technology to set up broadband mobile network, and provides services. Thus, at present, the wireless broadband access business is equal to WiMAX business. Therefore, the development of WiMAX industry plays a decisive role in Taiwan¡¦s economic development, its effecting level to the whole economic impact deserves analyzing and researching carefully. Based mainly on the Input-Output model, this study uses ex post facto comparison group and domestic concepts to combine the viewpoints of industrial analysis with the categories of 2004 Input-Output Table published by National Statistics, Executive Yuan, R.O.C., and then, adjusts Input-Output Table into 40 departments according to the policy of developing WiMAX that aggressively pushes forward the equipment and applied service fields. After that, defines related industries of network setup area and proceeds industry categorizing. Furthermore, this research does the analysis of Input-Output related effects and of multiplier effect so as to determine the role what it can play in the whole economic system. In the meanwhile, this study predicts the economic benefits of future development in setting up WiMAX and the operating period and the spurring effect of other related industries. The following are the research results¡G 1. In the next 3 years period and 5 years period of developing WiMAX network, the estimated total amount of investments will 21,549 million NT dollars and 37,291 million NT dollars each . It is predicted that there will be a whole output of domestic economic system of 34,489 million NT dollars and 59,685 million NT dollars; the created income effect will be 7,675 million NT dollars and 13,282 million NT dollars; the employment will be 7,588 jobs and 13,131 jobs each. 2. In the next 3 years period and 5 years period of operation, the estimated final demand variation amount will be 18,006 million NT dollars and 101,961 million NT dollars each by WiMAX services to customer. It is predicted that there will be a whole output of economic system of 27,063 million NT dollars and 153,249 million NT dollars; the created income effect will be 11,760 million NT dollars and 66,595 million NT dollars; the employment will be 4,766 jobs, 26,987 jobs. In sum, the promotion of WiMAX network construction will have positive influencing effect on the domestic economic growth and the development of every kind of industry.

Chinese Input Method Based on First Mandarin Phonetic Alphabet for Mobile Devices and an Approach in Speaker Diarization with Divide-and-Conquer

There are two research topics in this thesis. First, we implement a highly efficient Chinese input method. Second, we apply a divide-and-conquer scheme to the speaker diarization problem. The implemented Chinese input method transforms an input first-symbol sequence into a character string (a sentence). This means that a user only needs to input a first Mandarin phonetic symbol per character, which is very efficient compared to the current methods. The implementation is based on a dynamic programming scheme and language models. To reduce time complexity, the vocabulary for the language model consists of 1-, 2-, and 3-character words only. The speaker diarization system consists of segmentation and clustering modules. The divide-and-conquer scheme is essentially implemented in the clustering module. We evaluate the performance of our system using the speaker diarization score defined in the 2003 Rich Transcription Evaluation Plan. Compared to the baseline, our method significantly reduces the processing time without compromising diarization accuracy.
