To this progressive internalization of environmental concern in management and in training of university subjects we call university's environmentalization (greening process). When the university uses or possesses green areas, it can have an important tool in hands with the potential to contribute to its sustainability. In this way, the research sought to understand how these non-conventional educational spaces are constituted and how they are thought and perceived by the universities within a context that seeks sustainability and ethical-environmental engagement. It also sought to identify the common elements present in these relations and aims to contribute to the recognition of the potential uses of these spaces, such as outdoor education. As a field of research, eight universities in Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil, which have green areas under their legal responsibility and / or management, were delimited. The green areas were gardens and botanical gardens, Permanent Preservation Areas, Legal Reserves, Private Natural Heritage Reserves and Wildlife Refuge. The qualitative approach was the method used that privileged participant observation techniques, semi-structured interviews, the report of the people involved with these places, and document analysis. In this methodological path, two important and complementary stages stand out, which ultimately show the techniques to be used: bibliographic research and the field work in the mentioned Higher Education Institutions that are included in this context of possessing green areas and environmental management and sustainability policies. The research sought to base the study theoretically based on the references of Anthropology, Philosophy, Environmental Psychology and Sociology, articulating with the field of Education and Environmental Education. The results pointed to something that could be seen as emptying the sense of place of these spaces and how their existence depends on the people engaged beyond the responsibility of the institutions. Universities are struggling with greening processes, but the places of the green spaces are uncertain and fragile. Reflection on the insertion of a smaller ecology and a smaller education in the use of areas could bring them back to life. / A tem?tica de interesse desta pesquisa de doutorado est? relacionada ao uso de ?reas verdes, preservadas ou n?o, pelas universidades e como esses usos est?o integrados a processos educativos que tomem em conta a presen?a de ecossistemas, jardins, fauna, flora, entre outros elementos naturais presentes no espa?o universit?rio de forma??o dos estudantes, da comunidade acad?mica e de gest?o ambiental de um modo geral. A esta progressiva internaliza??o da preocupa??o ambiental na forma??o dos sujeitos universit?rios e na gest?o chamamos ambientaliza??o da universidade. Quando a universidade faz uso ou ? possuidora de ?reas verdes pode ter em suas m?os uma importante ferramenta com potencial de contribuir com sua sustentabilidade. Desta forma, a pesquisa buscou compreender como s?o constitu?dos estes espa?os educacionais n?o convencionais e como eles s?o pensados e percebidos pelas universidades dentro de um contexto que busca sustentabilidade e engajamento ?tico-ambiental. Procurou tamb?m identificar os elementos em comum presentes nestas rela??es e pretende com isso contribuir no reconhecimento das potencialidades de usos destes espa?os, como por exemplo outdoor education. Como campo de pesquisa foram delimitadas oito universidades do Rio Grande do Sul ? Brasil, que possuem ?reas verdes sob sua responsabilidade legal e/ou gest?o. As ?reas verdes localizadas foram horto e jardins bot?nicos, ?reas de Preserva??o Permanente, Reservas Legais, Reservas Particulares do Patrim?nio Natural e Ref?gio de Vida Silvestre. A abordagem qualitativa foi o m?todo utilizado que privilegiou t?cnicas de observa??o-participante, entrevistas semi-estruturadas, o relato das pessoas envolvidas com estes lugares e an?lise documental. Neste percurso metodol?gico destacam-se duas etapas importantes e complementares, que em ?ltima an?lise evidenciam as t?cnicas utilizadas: pesquisa bibliogr?fica e o trabalho de campo nas Institui??es de Educa??o Superior citadas, que se inserem neste contexto de possuintes de ?reas verdes e pol?ticas de gest?o ambiental e sustentabilidade. A pesquisa procurou fundamentar teoricamente o estudo a partir dos referenciais da Antropologia, Filosofia, Psicologia Ambiental e Sociologia, articulando-se com o campo da Educa??o e da Educa??o Ambiental. Os resultados apontaram para algo que poderia ser visto como esvaziamento do sentido de lugar destes espa?os e como sua exist?ncia depende das pessoas engajadas para al?m da responsabilidade das institui??es. As universidades est?o se defrontando com os processos de ambientaliza??o, mas o lugar das ?reas verdes ? incerto e fr?gil. A reflex?o sobre a inser??o de uma ecologia menor e uma educa??o menor no uso das ?reas poderia traz?-las de volta ? vida.

Through the ecological, environmental, aesthetic, landscape, climatic, psychological and also recreational functions, they alleviate the negative consequences of the continuous processes of urbanization, directly interfering in the quality of life of the people and ecosystem wrap. In this context, the present work aims to quantify and qualify the public green areas inserted in the Anhumas River Basin in Campinas / SP in order to contribute to evaluations and proposals of interventions in the existing areas or extensions of these spaces. The object of the study is the urban green areas that make up an urban system of free areas, which should be considered as spaces of daily life, having their edges used for diversified urban purposes, not only to support infrastructures such as road system or drainage . For the manipulation of the data, vectors and orthophotos, a GIS (Geographic Information System) program was used for the spatial interpretation of the data and elaboration of the cartographic products. The maps generated were used to identify potential areas for accounting for green areas. The work was delimited in the area drained by the Anhumas river basin, one of the most complex basins in Campinas / SP, in terms of environmental management, mainly due to the deep changes in its floodplains, caused by hydraulic interventions, but also by the model of urbanization adopted and the extensive occupation of urban land. However, in spite of its contrasts and paradoxes, the region still presents real possibilities of using its free spaces in the metropolis as a means to enable a functional and environmental requalification through the adoption of more public green areas, creation of integrating linear parks and permeable areas around the basin, considering the serious problems arising from the current state of degradation of the landscape and the environment. As a result, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of 14 areas was carried out and the proposal of 128 areas (794,14Ha) increasing the index of public green areas per inhabitant by more than 100%, with a green area index of 10, 82m? per inhabitant to 20.77m? of area per inhabitant, concluding that the potential of the public area allied to the correct urban planning can guarantee environmental quality to the population. / A preserva??o de ?reas verdes urbanas ? justificada por proporcionar qualidade ambiental ? popula??o. Por meio das fun??es ecol?gico-ambiental, est?tica, paisag?stica, clim?tica, psicol?gica e tamb?m recreativa, amenizam as consequ?ncias negativas dos processos cont?nuos de urbaniza??o, interferindo diretamente na qualidade de vida das pessoas e ecossistema envolt?rio. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho tem por objetivo quantificar e qualificar as ?reas verdes p?blicas inseridas na Bacia do ribeir?o das Anhumas em Campinas/SP a fim de contribuir para avalia??es e propostas de interven??es nas ?reas j? existentes ou amplia??es desses espa?os. O objeto do estudo s?o as ?reas verdes urbanas que comp?em um sistema urbano de ?reas livres, e que devem ser considerados como espa?os da vida cotidiana, tendo suas orlas aproveitadas para fins urbanos diversificados, e n?o apenas para suporte de infraestruturas como sistema vi?rio ou drenagem. Para a manipula??o dos dados, vetores e ortofotos foram utilizados um programa SIG (Sistema de Informa??es Geogr?ficas) para a interpreta??o espacial dos dados e elabora??o dos produtos cartogr?ficos. Os mapas gerados foram utilizados na identifica??o de ?reas potenciais para contabiliza??o de ?reas verdes. O trabalho foi delimitado na ?rea drenada pela bacia do ribeir?o das Anhumas, uma das bacias mais complexas de Campinas/SP no que se refere ? gest?o ambiental, principalmente por decorr?ncia das profundas altera??es em suas v?rzeas, causadas por interven??es hidr?ulicas, mas tamb?m pelo modelo de urbaniza??o adotado e pela ocupa??o extensiva do solo urbano. Entretanto, apesar de seus contrastes e paradoxos, a regi?o apresenta ainda reais possibilidades de utiliza??o de seus espa?os livres na metr?pole como meio de viabiliza??o de uma requalifica??o funcional e ambiental atrav?s da ado??o de mais ?reas verdes p?blicas, cria??o de parques lineares integradores e aumento das ?reas perme?veis no contorno da referida bacia, considerando-se, os s?rios problemas decorrentes do estado atual de degrada??o da paisagem e do meio ambiente. Como resultado obteve-se an?lise qualiquantitativa de 14 ?reas e a proposta de mais 128 ?reas (794,14Ha) aumentando o ?ndice de ?reas verdes p?blicas por habitante em mais de 100%, com ?ndice de ?reas verdes de 10, 82m? por habitante para 20,77m? de ?rea verde por habitante, concluindo que o potencial da ?rea p?blica aliada ao correto planejamento urbano pode-se garantir qualidade ambiental a popula??o.

Inspite of these spaces are intended for the general population, they do not present the adequated conditions for an appropriate use all day long, and thus their use is limited only during the daytime period. Among these places there are few or almost none adequate and easy lighting maintenance for the public green areas. Therefore, the objective of this work was to assess the main public green spaces in the Ribeir?o das Anhumas? basin area in order to evaluate the general condition and emphasize the illumination and its absence. For this purpose, an evaluation worksheet was developed to verify pre-determined attributes such as: lighting, infrastructure, green areas and mobility in 18 selected areas within the Ribeir?o das Anhumas. The resulted was an index of urban quality of these spaces. It was possible to relate the attributes to have a comparative among them, having the lighting as a point of comparison to the other attributes. As a result, it was possible to verify that, for the use of the population, the equipment presented indicated which are positive and/or negative points of each area, to create maintenance plans and new projects focusing on better quality and efficiency of the infrastructure involved and the more efficient luminaires to be installed. The proposed index has proved to be useful to analyze these areas and it can contribute to the management and decision for the maintenance or even to plan new spaces. The areas analyzed in the Ribeir?o Anhumas? Basin presented some deficiencies in quality of the existing public lighting structure that may hinder the population use and mobility in these public spaces. / A bacia hidrogr?fica do Ribeir?o das Anhumas localiza-se no munic?pio de Campinas, no Estado de S?o Paulo, sendo esta uma ?rea importante para o munic?pio pois localizam-se uma grande parte das pra?as, parques e bosques e uma vasta ?rea verde direcionadas ao uso p?blico. ? sabido, no entanto que esses espa?os s?o destinados a popula??o em geral, mas que nem sempre apresentam as condi??es para um uso adequado independente do hor?rio, e dessa forma fica limitado ao seu uso apenas no per?odo diurno. Desses locais s?o poucos ou quase nenhum os que apresentam uma ilumina??o adequada e de f?cil manuten??o para a ?rea verde p?blica. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo realizar levantamentos nos principais espa?os verdes p?blicos existentes a na bacia hidrogr?fica do Ribeir?o das Anhumas de modo a verificar a condi??o geral e enfatizando a ilumina??o e a sua aus?ncia. Para tanto foi aplicada em um conjunto de 18 ?reas selecionadas dentro da Bacia do Ribeir?o das Anhumas uma planilha de avalia??o fora desenvolvida para que verificasse atributos pr?-determinados tais como: Ilumina??o, Infraestrutura e ?reas Verdes e Mobilidade, onde resultou em um ?ndice de qualidade urban?stica desses espa?os, foi poss?vel relacionar os atributos para que se tenha um comparativo entre eles, tendo a ilumina??o como ponto de compara??o aos demais atributos. Como resultado foi poss?vel verificar que para o uso da popula??o os equipamentos apresentados, indicaram quais s?o pontos positivos e/ou negativos de cada ?rea para que possam ser gerados planejamentos de manuten??o e novos projetos j? focando em uma melhor qualidade e efici?ncia da infraestrutura envolvida e das lumin?rias a serem instaladas. O ?ndice proposto mostrou-se como uma ferramenta interessante de an?lise dessas ?reas podendo contribuir na gest?o e na tomada de decis?o para manuten??o ou at? mesmo para planejar um novo espa?o. As ?reas analisadas na Bacia do Ribeir?o Anhumas apresentaram algumas defici?ncias em termos da qualidade da estrutura de ilumina??o p?blica existente que pode dificultar a utiliza??o e a mobilidade da popula??o nesses espa?os.
