Previous issue date: 2017-02-22 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / This thesis present the process of environmentalization of two Brazilian universities and a Spanish one: the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), the University of Lavras (UFLA), and the University of Alcal? (UAH), respectively. The main focus of this research is to understand how sustainability is being addressed in the activities of these institutions and what is the greatest challenge in the continuity of these actions. Considering that the environmentalization is a process that addresses the socio-environmental dimension in all axes and actions and taking into account the historical retrospective of this process in higher education, the role of indicators and the networks woven in this scenario, this research understands that the environmentalization occurs in three dimensions: in management, in the curriculum and in the campus. Based on this definition, the study aims to identify the main actions and challenges in each of these dimensions. The choice of these universities was based on my experience as a student at PUCRS and the rank of the UFLA and the UAH at the GreenMetric World University Ranking, which measures the sustainability of higher education institutions worldwide and shows that these two universities are in the first position in their respective countries. The research has identified the environmental actions of many Brazilian universities, showing the concern of these institutions in assuming their socio-environmental responsibility, the potential of transformation when there is a sustainable management and the fragility in environmental education, which needs to claim more space and strength in these institutions.

Previous issue date: 2018-04-17 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / The aim of this research was to understand the relationship of schools and the place where
they are inserted. The study investigated what factors can influence the environmentalization
of schools' curriculum. An ethnographic approach was applied. The study was based on data
collected in schools in Viam?o and Porto Alegre, in Brazil, which are located around
conservation areas. The research identified that the main concern related to the environment
in most schools were global issues, especially in regards to solid waste issues. In one of the
schools analysed, it was identified a focus on the value of the school location and of the
conservation area. Factors that influenced the environmentalization of the school?s curriculum
were: the effects of public policy; the school documents; the presence of a conservation area
next to the school and its relationship with the place; the agency of nonhuman actors and
issues related to human actions and emotions, e.g. violence, the recognition of the nature and
the concern with environment issues. The research also identified some elements that
facilitated a connection between schools and the conservation areas, and other elements that,
on the contrary, hampered or banned the access of students and educators in those areas. The
factors that contributed to the relationship between schools and conservation areas were their
geographic proximity; the efforts of managers and other staff in the conservation areas to
promote environmental education in schools; the presence of educators and managers
engaged with environmental issues, and the incentives of public policies addressing
environmental education and sustainability. The challenges identified were related to the
restricted number of staff in the conservation areas and to the limited financial resources
available. Public policies can facilitate the relationship between schools and conservation
areas however they can also make the process more difficult. Examples are the rules and
orientations about the school curriculum, the rules for visitors in conservation areas and the
historical conflicts related to the establishment of conservation areas in Brazil. Despite
impositions and difficulties faced by schools, the creativity of the people and the influence of
the place allow them to stand up to challenges related to the environmentalization of the
curriculum.
natureza e a preocupa??o com a quest?o ambiental, estavam relacionados com a
ambientaliza??o do curr?culo.
As pol?ticas

Previous issue date: 2018-02-26 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / This doctoral research theme of interest is related to the use of green areas, preserved or not, by universities and how the use of these areas are integrated with the educational processes considering the presence of ecosystems, gardens, fauna, flora, among other natural elements in the university space for student?s training, academic community and environmental management in general. To this progressive internalization of environmental concern in management and in training of university subjects we call university's environmentalization (greening process). When the university uses or possesses green areas, it can have an important tool in hands with the potential to contribute to its sustainability. In this way, the research sought to understand how these non-conventional educational spaces are constituted and how they are thought and perceived by the universities within a context that seeks sustainability and ethical-environmental engagement. It also sought to identify the common elements present in these relations and aims to contribute to the recognition of the potential uses of these spaces, such as outdoor education. As a field of research, eight universities in Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil, which have green areas under their legal responsibility and / or management, were delimited. The green areas were gardens and botanical gardens, Permanent Preservation Areas, Legal Reserves, Private Natural Heritage Reserves and Wildlife Refuge. The qualitative approach was the method used that privileged participant observation techniques, semi-structured interviews, the report of the people involved with these places, and document analysis. In this methodological path, two important and complementary stages stand out, which ultimately show the techniques to be used: bibliographic research and the field work in the mentioned Higher Education Institutions that are included in this context of possessing green areas and environmental management and sustainability policies. The research sought to base the study theoretically based on the references of Anthropology, Philosophy, Environmental Psychology and Sociology, articulating with the field of Education and Environmental Education. The results pointed to something that could be seen as emptying the sense of place of these spaces and how their existence depends on the people engaged beyond the responsibility of the institutions. Universities are struggling with greening processes, but the places of the green spaces are uncertain and fragile. Reflection on the insertion of a smaller ecology and a smaller education in the use of areas could bring them back to life.

Previous issue date: 2010-03-08 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / The practices that may characterize a potential greenerism and politicization of consumption
arise from the perception of the impact of standards and levels of consumption in the global
environment. From the 1990s, certain practices of consumption started being socially and
environmentally responsible. This research had as general objective to reflect on greenering
processes and the politicization of consumption and everyday life in the contemporary
Brazilian society, emphasizing the multifaceted field of food. The shopping practices of
organic food, especially from those individuals who are not organized collectively in social
movements configure the object of the research. The main reason for its development was the
gap in Brazilian social science in relation to studies on the consumers perspectives while
social actors and the different uses they perform on their practices of consumption, especially
the political use. The main questions included issues such as: Are the shopping practices of
organic food perceived and experienced by consumers as a form of political action? In what
ways do consumers deal with the discourses and responsibility charging for the environmental
crisis? When seeking to answer them through an ethnography of the shopping practices of
organic food in the city of Nova Friburgo/RJ and conducting in depth interviews with
consumers, this research has identified an increased political autonomy of the individual
against the public and private spheres, which occurs in the field of consumption. The shop of
organic food is perceived and used as a repertoire of "romantic-individualistic" political
action in the public sphere. These practices prove themselves capable of feeding bridges to
citizenship, enabling the emergence of new collective engagement periods in a context of
social reflexivity and global risk society.

Previous issue date: 2012-05-04 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / Currently, there is a context of expanding market of organic products, stimulated by the
increased demand of public policies for the sector of family farming and for the
increasing offer of organic products in supermarkets and other channels, such as fairs,
specialized stores and Internet. The input of organic in supermarkets tends to be seen as
part of the ?conventionalization? of organic agriculture and as a force that would leads
to reduction or even disappearance of alternative commercialization channels. However,
is noticed that collective shopping experiences of organic products remain, persist and
even grow in the country. This work object is the Ecological Network, an association of
organic products consumers, created in 2001 in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), in order to facilitate
homes' supplies with organic food and help small farmers to drain their production. The
main issue of this research is to understand the permanence of such association of
consumers in the context of changes in the role played by both State and market facing
the organic agriculture. As conclusion, it was pointed that the Ecological Network has
been updating and expanding the meanings and senses of their practices of organic
products purchase, perceived by its members as an alternative, "more politicized" and
thus differentiated when related to shopping through other channels. The difference,
according to associates, seems to lie in the fact that in the Network, the purchase of
organic is done in an organized and collective way, and therefore committed not only to
the personal health, the small farmer and the environment, but also with the
management of the Network and with the fight in the public sphere by issues related to
food and organic farming family. So, despite the purchase be the structuring activity of
the Ecological Network, there is a perception among its members, that the shopping, by
itself, is not a sufficient form of participation and is not seen as an efficient way to fight
for more meaningful changes in society. Thus, at the same time that the Ecological
Network is inserted in a context of spillover of the political sphere for individual
actions, such as the consumption, it remains the notion of politics as synonymous of
collective participation. This leads us to think that the Network represents, for its
members, a space that promotes materialization of values and political participation in
society. In this sense, can be understood in the process of greenerism and politicization
of consumption and, yet in the context of New Social Economic Movements / Atualmente, observa-se um contexto de expans?o da comercializa??o de produtos
A quest?o central
mercado frente ? agricultura familiar org?nica.
agricultura familiar org?nica.
Econ?micos
