[en] CARE PRACTICES FOR CHILDREN WITH ASD IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC / [pt] PRÁTICAS DE CUIDADOS DE CRIANÇAS COM TEA NO CONTEXTO DA PANDEMIA DA COVID-19

LAURA SENGES CARRERAS 05 December 2022 (has links)
[en] The present dissertation aimed to understand the care processes of parents with children on the autistic spectrum, how they were affected or changed during the pandemic and how these parents dealt with the difficulties brought about by social isolation. Therefore, an empirical study of qualitative design was carried out. The study sought the participants experiences on how the care practices of their children with ASD occurred during the pandemic, especially during the period of social isolation. Five mothers with autistic children aged between seven and 11 participated in the study, who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured questionnaire. The interviews with the participants were carried out using the ZOOM platform and the material collected was transcribed, transforming it into textual material. For the analysis, the method of Bardin (2016) was used, in which information collected was coded and categorized. The results found suggest that, despite the challenges encountered in coping with a pandemic, mothers were able to carry out proximal processes with their children; the characteristics of ASD influence the way of care of these mothers and that there was an aggravation in the emotional suffering of these mothers during the pandemic period. The research had some limitations due to the pandemic situation, like the number of participants, and further studies are suggested on the possible effects of social isolation for these families, especially in relation to the conduct of school institutions.
