The clues left by the strange relationship between violence and religion, which had long troubled ethnology, but which had recently cooled down with sparse responses, received fresh breath through the Girard s work. Starting from the same sacrificial hermeneutic key, but using distinct epistemological categories, Girard s thought and Moltmann s theology merge, demonstrating the unusual witnessing unity of the Gospels as a definitive complement to the narrative of salvific history and full demonstration of God s pathos in favor of all humanity. This is not simply because the Crucified is vindicated and inscribed in atrocity and covert violence, but precisely because he is the least probable victim of the whole story.
