Evaluation of the Evidential Value of the Elemental Composition of Glass, Ink and Paper by Laser-Based Micro-Spectrochemical Methods

Trejos, Tatiana 08 November 2012 (has links)
Elemental analysis can become an important piece of evidence to assist the solution of a case. The work presented in this dissertation aims to evaluate the evidential value of the elemental composition of three particular matrices: ink, paper and glass. In the first part of this study, the analytical performance of LIBS and LA-ICP-MS methods was evaluated for paper, writing inks and printing inks. A total of 350 ink specimens were examined including black and blue gel inks, ballpoint inks, inkjets and toners originating from several manufacturing sources and/or batches. The paper collection set consisted of over 200 paper specimens originating from 20 different paper sources produced by 10 different plants. Micro-homogeneity studies show smaller variation of elemental compositions within a single source (i.e., sheet, pen or cartridge) than the observed variation between different sources (i.e., brands, types, batches). Significant and detectable differences in the elemental profile of the inks and paper were observed between samples originating from different sources (discrimination of 87 – 100% of samples, depending on the sample set under investigation and the method applied). These results support the use of elemental analysis, using LA-ICP-MS and LIBS, for the examination of documents and provide additional discrimination to the currently used techniques in document examination. In the second part of this study, a direct comparison between four analytical methods (µ-XRF, solution-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS and LIBS) was conducted for glass analyses using interlaboratory studies. The data provided by 21 participants were used to assess the performance of the analytical methods in associating glass samples from the same source and differentiating different sources, as well as the use of different match criteria (confidence interval (±6s, ±5s, ±4s, ±3s, ±2s), modified confidence interval, t-test (sequential univariate, p=0.05 and p=0.01), t-test with Bonferroni correction (for multivariate comparisons), range overlap, and Hotelling’s T2 tests. Error rates (Type 1 and Type 2) are reported for the use of each of these match criteria and depend on the heterogeneity of the glass sources, the repeatability between analytical measurements, and the number of elements that were measured. The study provided recommendations for analytical performance-based parameters for µ-XRF and LA-ICP-MS as well as the best performing match criteria for both analytical techniques, which can be applied now by forensic glass examiners.

Implementace Microsoft SharePoint Serveru 2010 do malé společnosti / Implementation of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 into a small company

Jakoubek, Jiří January 2010 (has links)
Today's world is globally connected by various IT or ICT technologies. There is a plenty of information around the world. People that are able to work effectively with the information have really big advantage. This is mainly the reason why many products are being made only with one purpose -- to make this process more effective, easier and faster. One of them is Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. The work is all about this product and its implementation into a small company. An introduction discusses basic reasons that can lead to implement SharePoint. The first logical part of the work describes functionality of the portal and is divided into six groups of functions. For better illustration, there are also examples based on real scenarios. The second part of the text focuses on individual phases of the process of implementation of SharePoint Server 2010 into the company and it also includes an example of real installation. The last part of the work is focused on design of the project collaboration web for the specific company. In individual chapters, the reader gradually learns about the possibilities of practical use of SharePoint functionality and also about the implementation of this software into the company environment. In both parts author uses his practical experience which he gained by working with the technology in a real environment.

Přístupy k řešení digitalizace dokumentů. / Approaches to the implementation of document imaging systems

Kapicová, Eva January 2010 (has links)
This thesis is focused on document imaging and describes different approaches to the implementation of document imaging systems. In the first part there is the theoretical background of the document imaging that is supplemented by current statistics. In the first part there are also some remarks on the situation on the Czech market. The second part is based on examinations of different approaches to document imaging systems that were made by Czech companies. The main objective of this thesis is a practical example of selecting an appropriate solution of the document imaging. There are considered three types of approaches to the document imaging: complete outsourcing, in-house outsourcing or a solution of their own. To achieve this goal there is an adequate theoretical basis for the document imaging and an overview of hardware and software support for digitization in the first part of the thesis. TEI method by Forrester Research is used for comparison of the economic impact of the different approaches. The contribution of this thesis is primarily in the description of the state of document imaging in the Czech Republic and also examination of different solutions and approaches to the document imaging. There is also a completion of the theoretical part by a data from current surveys.

Conception des chaînes éditoriales : documentariser l'activité et structurer le graphe documentaire pour améliorer la maîtrise de la rééditorialisation / Design of publishing chains : documenting the activity and structuring the graph of document fragments to enhance the mastery of repurposing

Arribe, Thibaut 24 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the design of digital XML publishing chains : document production software which allows writing fragments and composing them in order to publish documents. Document publication is computed by transforming XML fragments into digital documents in standard formats. The composition of the fragments allows the repurposing of existing contents into new documents. The writing of repurposed documents involves a change in the logical representation ofdocuments from the classical form of the tree to a graph of linked fragments. This work is dedicated to the limitations encountered when the complexity of the graph becomes an obstacleto the writing of consistent documents. We developed a theory for the design of publishing chains which is based on two complementary approaches around the concept of the writing workspace - the space where the authors write the fragments - to assist writers in the editing of complex graphs. The first approach is internal to the workspace. We propose to model pragmatic fragments intended to assist authors in fragment management while recording graph activity. These fragments are involved in the activity documentarisation since they produce and maintaina documentation of the actions performed on the graph. The second approach is external to the workspace. We propose to structure the graph asseveral workspaces based on publishing and authorial projects. The challenge is to distribute the graph over several workspaces in order to simplify their perception and handling. We participated in the development of Scenari in order to experiment our theoretical approach. The pragmatic fragment models of the task, of the commented fragment, and of there sponsibilities and life cycles on fragments were developed to document the activity. The layerworkspaces and proxy fragments were designed to structure the graph. Our experiments allowed us to summarize a methodology for designing publishing chains which handle complex graphs. Our work is concluded with an epistemological approach in order to qualify and evaluate this technological research.
