Previous issue date: 2012-03-09 / Um dos nichos da Educação que vislumbra a inserção de jogos no processo de
aprendizagem é a Educação a distância. Porém, ao contrário do que se imaginava
há anos atrás, atualmente ainda não é muito comum o uso de jogos no ensino a
distância. Os jogos acabaram sendo mais utilizados apenas como forma de reforçar
ou testar o conhecimento dos alunos. Uma das razões identificadas, para a não
utilização de jogos nesse processo de aprendizagem pode corresponder à
necessidade que os alunos e professores têm em perceber as atividades do grupo,
necessidade esta que não é explorada pelos ambientes de LMS atualmente
disponíveis no mercado. Com a finalidade de aumentar o grau de motivação dos
alunos e explorar as possibilidades de dar percepção para a atividade do grupo ao
jogar, o contexto desta pesquisa baseia-se na concepção e criação de um artefato
para a integração de jogos ao LMS Amadeus. Para atingir o objetivo proposto,
utilizamos a literatura de Interação Humano-computador, especificadamente o
método de design de interação. O processo foi composto por quatro atividades
básicas: (1) Identificação das necessidades do usuário, (2) desenvolvimento de
alternativas de design, (3) construção de versões iterativas, e (4) avaliação do
design. O método considerou ainda três aspectos chaves do processo: foco no
usuário, definição de metas de usabilidade e prototipagem evolutiva. Na etapa da
identificação de necessidades utilizamos as técnicas de análise de competidores e
construção de cenários, na etapa de alternativas de design foram construídos
protótipos de baixa fidelidade e storyboards. A partir das especificações e
prototipagem definidas foi implementada a solução no ambiente de LMS Amadeus,
seguindo todas as regras de layout padrão. Por último, foi feito um teste de
usabilidade com usuários que teve como meta identificar a facilidade de uso da
solução desenvolvida. Como contribuição deste trabalho, tivemos a Identificação de
requisitos que vieram demonstrar as necessidades em relação à integração de jogos
em ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem, a especificação de um modelo de
desenvolvimento de artefatos para ambientes de LMS baseado em princípios e
técnicas de IHC, para que outros trabalhos possam ser desenvolvidos baseado no
método utilizado e o desenvolvimento de uma interface de fácil utilização para que
professores possam inserior jogos, de forma fácil, no ambiente Amadeus.

Then it is made the comparison with British branch which has the same structure. Based on the indentified shortage the new strategy is proposed in two version differing in financial cost.

Chapters 2 and 3 are devoted to a survey of existing works and the applications and to a theoretical introduction to the field of computer supported teamwork. The chapter 6 contains the user manual, which includes all the information needed for use of application from the user's perspective as well as from the perspective of the administrator.

Agents that act as user assistants will become invaluable as the number of information sources continue to proliferate. Such agents can support the work of users by learning to automate time-consuming tasks and filter information to manageable levels. Although considerable advances have been made in this area, it remains a fertile area for further development. One application of agents under careful scrutiny is the automated negotiation of conflicts between different user's needs and desires. Many techniques require explicit user models in order to function. This dissertation explores a technique for dynamically constructing user models and the impact of using them to anticipate the need for negotiation. Negotiation is reduced by including an advising aspect to the agent that can use this anticipation of conflict to adjust user behavior.

Developmental Outlines for a Desktop-based Online Tool for Collaborative ProcessesMajali, Rupashree 18 January 2001 (has links)
This research revolves around the rapidly evolving computer-based conferencing technology and the growing need for applications tailored for collaborative environments. It focuses on tools for collaborative processes using an existing software application — CyberQuest as a case study. CyberQuest is a problem solving and innovation support system its main intent being - to help people come up with ideas and with ways to implement them.
The objective behind this research is to illuminate the need for desktop based tools for online conferencing, which do more than just audio-video linking and is more than just a simple Internet based "meeting" software. It aims at analyzing the existing CyberQuest software and outline the methodology to be followed to convert it to a Web-based tool for problem solving and innovation support. Chapter 1 describes the existing features of CQ and the reasons as to why this application is suited for adapting to a network environment such as the Internet or an in-company intranet. It elucidates the steps involved in converting CQ to a Web based application and briefly describes the process of how files are processed on the Web. Chapter 3 gives a brief introduction to the Internet and the Web and distinguishes between the two. It also explains what intranets are and the main constituents of a web system. Chapter 4 and 5 explain the conversion issues in detail and list the various scripting languages available and the process of translating the application from Visual Basic into a scripted language. Chapter 6 surveys the results of using an application sharing software to share CQ over 2 or more computers. Lastly, Chapter 7 lists the findings and the future direction of all that is discussed in this study.
When fully developed, WebCQ (Web-enabled CyberQuest) would most certainly prove to be a valuable tool for enabling technology that will support collaborators in different disciplines by connecting them to a vast database of information to help them find solutions and improve performance in almost any field.

Software development teams are often geographically distributed from their customers and end users. This creates significant communication and coordination challenges that impact the effectiveness of requirements engineering. Travel costs, and the local availability of quality technical staff increase the demand for effective distributed software development teams. In this research an empirical study was conducted on the application of groupware to facilitate the requirements phase of the software engineering life cycle. The study considered the impact of the distributed work environment on requirements engineering process quality, as well as the effectiveness of requirements elicitation techniques when used in the distributed setting. Through the examination of the effectiveness of groupware tools, and requirements elicitation techniques, customer participation is found to be paramount for distributed requirements engineering. As requirements negotiation becomes more asynchronous in nature, it appears that customer participation in the elicitation process becomes very important for process effectiveness. Verbal communication barriers negatively effect customer participation. Such barriers cause customers to rely upon mediums such as email and text chat that are very good at reducing social distance, but are less rich in informational content. / Master of Science

Computer Supported Collaboration: Is the Transfer of Cognitive Structures Mediated by Mode of Communication?Bandy, Kenneth E. 05 1900 (has links)
The objective of this study was to observe evidence of structural transfer among subjects in a group problem-solving activity and determine whether mode of collaborative technology or use of a priming agent affected the nature of transferred structures. Evidence for structural transfer is found in three theoretical perspectives: organizational ditransitive (linguistic) verb structures, adaptive structuration theory, and mental model transfer theory. Dependent variables included various grammatical structures and coefficients derived from pretest and posttest scores on David Kolb's Learning Styles Inventory, modified for the experiment. The combination of changes in grammatical frequencies and learning style may suggest that one or more media or the priming agent may affect structural transfer. Results indicate that groups using the GroupSystems collaborative technology produced less overall linguistic content than did subjects using a generic chat system, but employed more complex language as indicated by frequency of the organizational ditransitive verb structure. Also, subjects supplied with an organization chart (priming agent) during the group problem-solving session experienced greater change on the learning styles inventory than did those participating in the session without the chart. These findings suggest that mode of communication and use of priming agents may contribute positively or negatively to the transfer of structures among group members. Researchers, collaborative system designers, organizational leaders, trainers & educators, and frequent collaborative technology system end-users should be aware of these potential affects. Suggestions for future research are provided. Relationship of theoretical foundations of structural transfer to constructivism is discussed.
