Operamaskerad i Stockholm 1925

Widing, Gabriel January 2006 (has links)
I have examined the conditions for participation in an opera masquerade. Theoretical support has been found in Michail Bachtin, Richard Schechner and Judith Butler. The main study object has been a masquerade organised by the workers of The Royal Opera of Stockholm in 1925. The masquerade is examined as a social practise with distinct aesthetic framing. The analysis shows that the opera masquerade share some characteristics with the medieval carnival culture as described by Bachtin, but differ in many ways as well. It is easy to place the opera masquerade within the concept performance as discussed by Schechner, since it is framed in time, space and make use of certain social agreements. A look at the architecture shows that physical and social border between the stage and the auditorium had to be dissolved to let opera viewers become opera masquerade participants. Using Butler I discuss how the masquerade could challenge as well as preserve traditional gender structures.

Novel Broadband Designs of Microstrip Antennas

Kuo, Jieh-Sen 30 April 2001 (has links)
Novel broadband designs of microstrip antennas have been proposed in this dissertation, including bandwidth enhancement using integrated reactive loading, broadband circularly polarized designs, broadband dual-frequency design, bandwidth enhancement using a slotted ground plane and practical applications. First, bandwidth enhancement of microstrip antennas using integrated reactive loading is proposed and experimentally studied. Results show that the proposed antennas can have an operating bandwidth more than 2.0 times that of a conventional one at a given operating frequency. Second, by selecting a thick air substrate, a wideband circularly polarized microstrip antenna with improved CP quality has been implemented. In addition to the improved CP quality obtained, a 2-dB axial-ratio bandwidth as large as about 38% is also achieved. Third, by bending a planar rectangular patch into an inverted L-shaped patch, a dual-frequency planar antenna has been obtained. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna has a tunable frequency ratio of about 1.66-2.29. Fourth, by embedding meandering slots or slits in the antenna¡¦s ground plane, it is observed that the impedance bandwidth of the microstrip antenna is twice larger than the conventional one. The experimental results show that the resonant frequency is significantly lower, which can lead to a large antenna size reduction for a fixed frequency operation. In addition, enhanced antenna gain is also obtained. Finally, a shorted patch antenna suitable for applications in DCS (1710-1880 MHz) base station is presented.

The influence of Buddhism to the enterprise operation.

Lin, Tso-chen 24 June 2002 (has links)
This paper examined the difference of enterprise which is operated by .a Buddhist or not. The main fundation of thesis is Buddhism doctrine and ¡§kind with wisdom¡¨ is the framework. We interview the CEO of erterprise and investigate employees to make some conclusion ¡G 1.The Buddhism doctrine influence the operation of enterprise with some aspect such like¡Gdo works of charity¡Bpeace and follow the middle course¡Bkind and altruistic and six sail across a sea. 2. The Buddhism doctrine also influence the employees¡¦ perception and enterprise culture with some aspect such like¡Gthe decision process¡Bregular religious activities¡Bthe middle level directors are also Buddhists¡Bthe office of the CEO with Buddhists has Buddhism ¡¥s atmosphere. And the erterprise with Buddhists operate get higher scores in these five scopes. 3.The features ¡§kind with wisdom ¡§affects the erterprise with Buddhists operate in some aspect such like¡Gorganization behavior¡Boperation belief¡Boperation style¡Bdisseminate Buddhist doctrine. 4.Comparing with Janan¡¦s enterprise, the Buddhism influence them much more than Taiwan. And the influence of Buddhism in Taiwan¡¦s enterprise was showed in quantity more than quality. 5.The principle of ¡§kind with wisdom¡¨ can also be applied to enterprise operation, the enter society behavior of enterprise operation could also develop the spirit of renouncing the world.

A Study of the Systematic Use of Themes and Motives

Lerner, Lindomar Linos January 2008 (has links)
Antonio Carlos Gomes (1836-1896) is considered one of the most important Brazilian composers and was the first New World composer whose work was accepted in Europe. His opera Fosca, though, was never discussed in depth and should be recognized as an important work in the history of the nineteenth century Italian opera for its skillful use of themes and motives. The Brazilian composer and musicologist Mario de Andrade presented a study of the principal themes in 1936, in commemoration of the centennial of Carlos Gomes' birth, but there is no record of a thorough study that shows the magnitude of Carlos Gomes' application of his motivic and thematic technique in this work.In this document, the author identifies the principal themes and motives, and demonstrates how the composer systematically used them to enhance the drama and lend coherence to the work as a whole. Gomes, in Fosca, used the technique to such extent that every major character in the opera has a minimum of one theme related to him or her. The leading role Fosca has many themes to represent her different feelings throughout the opera. There are also themes representing specific feelings between two people, and themes related to the chorus as well. Gomes uses his themes to contribute to the drama as active psychological elements and not simply as ornamentation. The recurring themes in Fosca are easily heard and recognized, but this does not mean that Gomes used them in a rudimentary or merely mechanical manner. Gomes' simplicity proves to be a useful tool in ensuring musical and dramatic continuity, offering us an idea of his broader goal as a musical dramatist.
