In the rural village Umoja one can witness a reaction to the unequal society; the women opposed the deep-rooted cultural habits and created their own dream space, a place designed through the eyes of a woman. A village ruled by women, built up by their needs. The Umoja women’s way of life is very controversial and a huge contrast to the rest of the country. Looking at Nairobi, and the informal settlements the situation is completely different, but the dream about an equal space is the same. In this thesis we are looking at how architecture can work with the social issues about equality, focusing on the public room in one of the larger informal settlements – Korogocho. Due to the density the only space that is public is the street. The streets become the only space for interaction, as well as the place for political, economic and social activities. Through observing, analysing and interacting it is clear that the streets are mostly claimed by men. In combination with high levels of unemployment, crimes, drugs and alcohol creates a very insecure public sphere, especially for women and children. These vulnerable group needs new context that is not limited to the private home. Through a series of spatial interventions, we are interested in how architecture can question this norm, by understanding the street as a public area and analysing how it is used and can be used in the future.

Original project of Skärholmen was composed of a system of public spaces, but this was `broken´  by the closure of the connection between the two squares in 1986. Street between shopping buildings became part of the shoping mall. The current situation is dominated by the activity of consumption, and Storholmsgatan is characterized by an atmosphere of anxiety and constant over-stimutation. The project aims to think through what form of ´restoration´ of this system of public spaces could take. How can we work with quite constrained, long, linear spaces as site for architecture? What is the role of rhythm in producing experience? A theme for design is to produce spacial hierarchy and make  a contemporary variation on modernism’s approach of the funcional color in design process.

Barcelona – Highschool Barcelona – Vallcarca Vallcarca is a city district with very special character, rugged topography, heterogenous social structure and two different scales of constructions. It is also an important pedestrian connection between park Güell and other city parks. Soon, its probable, that considerable changes will happen here. Except the highschool, the objective was to create on our land a quality public space for students and also for Vallcarca and if possible to reuse the building of the old school. The public square is surrounded by highschool building, used by Vallcarca inhabitants. New public passage between two levels is planned, for better connection between Güell and other parks. The hisgh school is planned as four pavillions with different height, connected between them by private courtyards or public street. Students animate the public space, walking among the school functions. The principal entrance is against the old school building, its an open-air vestibule, coverred by pergola. The height of pavillions reacts on the landscape and the scale of surrounding buildings. Inside, the pavillions are composed of two tracts – the classes and the gallery. Every pavillion has two stairs and the gallery is in contact with the courtyard. At the ends of gallerie are student loggias, used as entertainment space. The same purpose has the hall in the ancient stone mine. On the other side of the street, the old school building is used as restaurant, with its facilities in the new extension. The public space is limited on the south side by new construction of the library.

The town library is located on Přerovké povstání square in Přerov. Library has three floors and there is commercial parterre with the coffee-bar. There is an atrium in the middle of square shape building. The form of the building was inspirated by Kino Hvězda.

In the area with a strong past where river Flon was covered with 3 horizontal platforms and changed into industrial area there is now a new cultural center of the city growing. Our diploma thesis is a proposal to transform one of the blocks into a municipal library of Lausanne. The library is conceived as two objects turned towards each other with even and silk double glass facade as if it was one object sliced into two. It creates an exterior space in the system of whole platform. Interior is a system of bigger spaces, where you can go to light, and smaller spaces, where you can go for silent and concentration.

Senior and the City investigate the question; what does it mean to age with dignity in the city? With recent years of pandemic precautions, as senior citizens were subdivided into a high-index group, a greater focus was set upon their living conditions due to the protection. The protective isolation bore discussions about loneliness and the value of social contact arose.  In my thesis project I have made a case study of the senior living home the Flower Fund. Through my research and the pre-conditions of the Flower Fund I have made three public gestures with the aim to link the activity within the buildings to the public life of the streets-cape without. Proposing architectural means which are effective in creating public spaces that is somehow generous and beneficial for both seniors and the city.

Skateboarding is growing in popularity more than ever and its further development will be sealed with its introduction to the Olympics in 2020. Stereotype of noisy, pot smoking outlaws is gradually vanishing, people enjoy watching skaters efforts and appreciate life they can bring to otherwise dull or unsafe areas. That results also in new challenges for the designers, not only in form of dedicated facilities- skateparks. As far as they are needed objects and their quality is crucial for safety of users and investment success they are also purpose built and therefore fake. They lack some of the most important aspects inscribed in skateboarders culture such as various, exciting and sometimes harsh city experience or improvisation and reinterpretation. Skateboarders will always oppose to use only dedicated areas or objects as they treat a whole city landscape as a playground.

Recent advancements in social networking and technology, and the increasing popularity of “gourmet” food trucks, have brought renewed attention to mobile food vending. Research indicates that vendors can provide inexpensive food to city dwellers and have a positive impact on the vibrancy of public spaces. The recent popularity of vendors, however, has fueled ongoing debates over public space use and regulation. Municipalities are looking to craft policies to appease community members with a range of opinions on the acceptability of vending on public streets. This thesis uses the case study of Los Angeles to attempt to answer the research question: What are the relationships among policies on food vendors, food vendors, and the public’s use and perception of urban space? The study triangulates information gathered from public space user surveys, behavior mapping and observation, in-depth interviews, and archival research to address this research question. Findings indicate that vending can contribute to vibrancy and activity in public spaces, and public space users generally perceive vendors positively. Findings of the research also suggest, however, that some public spaces do not provide adequate amenities for food truck customers and public space users. These, and other findings, are used to inform the policy and planning recommendations presented in this study.

A project about labyrinths. Project starts with looking at different kinds of reference labyinrhts to try to understand different kinds and different uses of labyrinths. Religious labyrinths, historical examples, labyrinths in movies and art. Then working with physical models of different kinds, investigating different spaces of different labyrinths. An investigation that led to a labyrinthine structure/public space proposal at Slussen in Stockholm.
